Parkerizing Blades
Parkerizing Blades
Hinderer Knives just announced a Vintage Series of their iconic XM-18. The blade is made from O1 and is parkerized. I can't think of another company that use the parkerizing process on blades (BM does parkerize some of their clips). Parkerizing is an old process, so I just assumed that the newer DLC and PVD processes are better. Does anybody here know of any advantages of the parkerizing process?

Re: Parkerizing Blades
It’s been used on firearms in the past but I think it’s not a terribly durable finish for something meant to scrape thru material. I have an old WWII rifle that is parkerized and it’s rougher than say a modern nitride finish.
The claim is parkerization holds oil well due to the roughness so it protects better than bluing. I suspect neither are of much protective use for knives.
