Shaman sprint or exclusive; what are you hoping for?

#1

Post by Catamount123 »

The steel I'd like to see is Cruwear, with CTS-XHP as a close runner up. For scales, forest green G-10 like the CTS-204P Para 2, or navy blue.

I thought Sal had confirmed Cruwear and brown micarta, but, checking back, it was only the micarta he mentioned.

Thanks attila :D

I hadn't seen that, only what he posted over on BladeForums. If I get Cruwear, brown micarta is fine with me.

Not done, but PERFECT! I’d love to get a Shaman, but have been holding back for this exact copy! I’ve loved my Cruwear CF Manix 2, so I’ve wanted more Cruwear and I’ve been longing for Micarta. Literal Perfection. It’s meant to be a hard use knife, and the Micarta allows it to be used in any condition and Cruwear is one of the best balances steels!

Really hoping that Cruwear is the next one we see. Micarta would be cool, otherwise G10 is great. Id think we will see a dealer exclusive at some point too. Maybe a BHQ Jade/M4 or a St Nicks Red/DLC 4V. Id be all over the St Nicks. This would be a great model to drop a 3V exclusive as well! And a Rex45 Sprint would surely be a hit. DLC Rex45 with Burnt Orange would be a insta-buy for me. ive been waiting patiently for some exclusives. I think we will see a few of these this year for sure.

I’d prefer a Shaman in 3V or 4V, but if Cruwear is what’s coming, I’d be glad to have it.

The Shaman isn’t for everyone, so I don’t imagine we’ll see more than one sprint or even one exclusive. But, I say, prove me wrong!

That micarta one sounds amazing. Besides that, I would be all in for gray, ivory, or burnt orange g-10.

I believe Sal said last year there were a few dealer exclusives in the works, and internally they were looking at possibly a Cruwear/Micarta and/or a CF/S90V model. Everyone basically poopoo'd the S90V and went nuts for the Cruwear/Micarta and there were tons of threads about it. I believe at last check they were doing lots of testing on Micarta due to previous issues with humidity induced warping.

So while I don't think there will be a ton of sprint/exclusives, I think more than one or two for sure. I really thing BHQ will do a Jade M4 one. I mean they did a Yojimbo, a Lum Chinese, and a Lum Tanto and even those did ok. Shaman seems like a no-brainer. Im guessing one is in the works now.

I've not yet fallen victim to the lures of the Shaman ... but if I was; i'd be very excited about micarta.

Using Jim Ankerson's test results, and accounting for ONLY Spyderco results we find that the better cutting steels are MAXAMET, CPM 10V, CPM S110V, and REX-45 and I'd rather have a Shaman in any of these than anything else.

MAXAMET - 1940 - Spyderco MT-24 - 67-68 RC - .018" Behind the edge
S110V - 1120 - Manix 2 - 62 RC - Regrind to .005" behind the edge.
CPM 10V - 1100 - Spyderco/Farid K2 - 63 HRC - .020" behind the edge.
CPM S110V - 1080 - Spyderco Military - 63-64 RC - .020" Behind the edge
REX-45 - 840 - Spyderco Military - (? HRC; Approx 65 to 66) - .023" behind the edge
S110V - 720 - Manix 2 - 62 RC - .030" behind the edge
CPM M4 - 500 - Spyderco Gayle Bradley - 62.5 - .022" behind the edge
S90V - 460 - Military - 60 RC
S90V/CPM 154 - Para 2 - 460 - ? RC
CTS 204P - 420 - Para 2
ZDP -189 - 420 - Endura 4 - 65 RC
M390 - 380 - Military - 61 RC
ELMAX - 340 - Para 2 - ? RC
HAP-40 - 320 - Spyderco Endura - ? RC - .024" behind the edge
S30V - 300 - Military - 60 RC
Cru-Wear - 260 - Military - ? RC
CTS-XHP - 240 - Military - 60.5 RC

Don't care about the steel, but micarta and satin finish blade would make me happy.

I've seen pics of the prototype from one of the blade shows. Other than that, no. The S90V cf sprint is still available at a few places. It's awesome :D
