I own a Hinderer Maximus and I like it, but after a while, it seems too small. Don't know how to describe it but it just does not feel like a 3 inch blade.

I'd like Spyderco to have a wack at the design and add 1/2 an inch to the length.

I’m sitting here reading this and

💡

How about a new balisong/butterfly knife?
I don't know what happened but Spyderco got burned by the Feds the last time that they manufactured balisongs.

The Sustain was supposed to be DE, but Sal wisely chose to allow the user to modify the false edge.
Between the Sustain and the Fish Hunter, as the two most recent examples, it is pretty clear that Spyderco policy is to let the end user do the final edge on the spine. They are already ground thin enough to do so. The real problem is finding a knife maker (preferably local) that has the tools and skills in order to put that final edge on.

IIRC the Warrior and Pygmy Warrior are the only two :spyder: that had a sharpened spine, but those were a special case.

What is the argument for having a dagger, apart from just wanting one?

It is an arm, of course, and if you’re American, you have the right to bear it. For offense, you’ll need a war. For defense, why not carry a firearm?

I'm not American. And I like symmetry.

I think 98% of the frequent posters here have more than one :spyder: for each use case. So this is not the driver.

This I understand and don’t have a quibble.

My actual reason for asking is that I took a Gerber Mark I to the Vietnam War in 1968. I had occasion to do some cutting as we would with any Spydie.

The edge of this combat dagger slipped off a leather thong I was trying to shorten and the point ended up lightly scraping the sclera on my right eye. Stupid me.

Wrong use. The edge was not the sharpest by design. The Mark I was meant for stabbing.

So, if stabbing is not a goal, I’m trying to imagine what safety issues arise in a Spydie dagger that is either dullish or scary sharp on its edges.

It would for sure be no knife for cutting apples in public, or opening boxes. I sure hope I would never have to use it for stabbing purposes, cause you know... Nevertheless I want one. :) It's one of these situations where you can only give flimsy reasons. But man would it be nice to have a double edge symmetrical blade Spydie flip folder..... :p
