The sharpest, strongest, most durable knife on the planet
Re: The sharpest, strongest, most durable knife on the planet
They are using amorphous metal as a thin edge laminate. There are many knife available with this edge mostly kitchen knives. I wouldn't think a working knife would be a good idea as if you rip through the laminate you're left with stainless steel.
Can you find it and can it cut?

IIRC LM was discussed over BF like 1 years ago (?). Can’t recall what it turned out to be. It’s not crystalline like our martensitic steel, thus ‘liquid’ and ‘amorphous’.StuntZombie wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 7:44 amIt took a few read throughs, but I think I finally figured it out. They're basically doing the same thing Buck did years ago with their Ion Fusion knives, where one half of the blade edge was coated with TiN. So, despite their claims that this is the most advanced thing to come out of the knife world in 100 years, they're about 20 years behind Buck Knives. I have a feeling whatever "LIquidmetal Matrix" they've used on the edge will be quickly worn away by regular sharpening.

I don't think it's actually "Liquid metal" like they were talking about on Bladeforums though. Honestly, it's not exactly clear what they're selling, other than a knife with a soft steel that supposedly has some sort of coating on the edge.anagarika wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:06 pmIIRC LM was discussed over BF like 1 years ago (?). It's described as glass like due to the additions of elements that create a glass matrix and are cooled extremely fast to maintain this structure. Most molten metal also start off in this state until it cools and then develops the familiar metal matrix everyone is familiar with. This metal is extremely promising, but as of now I think 1 mm is the thickest they've achieved for mass production.

Re: The sharpest, strongest, most durable knife on the planet
If the 1mm is used as core on a san mai design, that’s interesting ...

Re: The sharpest, strongest, most durable knife on the planet
I don't think they would use it for the core. It's more of an outside layer but I don't know about that design.

Dur: on the kerb, like the real pros do.
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

I thought it might sharpen itself each night, the metal is so special
