PMs in FRN please!

#1

Post by samdasnake »

Are we going to see an FRN PM 2 or3 at anytime in the near future? I've heard tell that a PM3 in FRN might be in the works. But alas, it wasn't in the 2019 catalog. I love FRN. It's probably my favorite scale material, despite all the naysayers. It's cheap and light and reliable. So when will we see a PM in FRN??

You may want to read the threads surrounding the 2019 catalog. Spyderco isn't going to announce anything upcoming until they're very close to having it available for purchase. I'm hoping for the FRN Para 3 or Sage 5, but we'll just have to be patient.

If those that have a delica in FRN and G10, can you weigh in, literally. I am curious to know if it will make any real world difference in weight while in my pocket. I’m not a FRN fan but it could be bc I only prefer models that come in G10.

As a proud owner of a Manix 2 LW in BD1, just let me say, "Take my $$ now please!"

The Manix 2 is solid FRN (or FRCP) and can be because the CBBL lock doesn’t depend on a liner. The compression lock needs a liner to function. So what’s the benefit of a PM2 with FRN scales? Just the texture?

It would be cool to see a lower cost PM2, though. Milling out those scales to hold the liners can’t be cheap.

As noted above, Sal said "The main advantage would be less expensive"

I like G10 but I also like FRN. It's inexpensive, durable, and some of the texturing patterns Spyderco uses offer supreme grip. I think all those features make for a great work knife. I'll have to get a FRN PM2 or Para 3 just for the novelty. However, I'm getting to the point if the initial/base models are S30V with black handles I'll likely wait for a sprint or exclusive that appeals to me. Nothing against S30V or black handles but I have plenty of both already.

Agreed, although I'd much rather prefer the Para 3 over the PM2 but would more than likely try both.

Definitely a wire clip! Maybe like a beefier version of the Chaparral LW!
