No flicking for me, just smoothly open with the thumb.

I played around with the index finger flick, but when I realized that it wasn't natural (for me anyway) and was going to take some work to "get it" I lost interest.

Mostly flick, and it can be thumb or middle. I have no idea how the index flick works - guess I have homework. But sometimes I just slow-open too.

When I got my first Spyderco, I assumed the hole was to be used with the thumb to open the blade. But it felt wird, and it seemed slow and the knife actually needs to rotate some if you use your thumb.

I kept practicing and practicing and I have gotten very good with opening with either my middle finger, or index finger with left or right hands.

So, I’m pretty sure your supposed to use your right middle finger.

The knife looks like an automatic. And it’s very consistent too.

The hardest way to open is using your index finger. I can do it now, with either hand. But it took a lot of practice.

I never use my thumb.

Just tried using my index finger with my PM2 and Domino, it's easier than I expected but I have to hold it so awkwardly I don't see the point.

That's exactly how I feel when using my middle finger.

Interesting answers all, keep them coming.

I most often use my thumb to flick. I find it faster and more intuitive than using my middle finger. I've never tried flicking with the index finger.

I'd say I thumb flick a knife about 60% of the time, thumb open 40%

Not me. I've tried and tried, and I still can't flick them with my middle finger either.

I can flick it with my thumbnail, smooth open with the thumb, and handle-drop open them. (though that last one is impractical) Thumb opening is best, because it keeps the knife in a practical position the whole time. No need to change grip after opening them.

I can't wait until they start releasing affordable flippers.
