Stuff you made
Stuff you made
You ever make anything yourself? I do. Sometimes just for fun, sometimes as gifts and sometimes because I need something. This time it was a combination of needing a tool, and sentiment. I couldn’t find my late fathers small sledgehammer. (I know it’ll turn up at my moms place eventually) in the meantime however, I decided to make a new one for myself out of some track I got from him.

Re: Stuff you made
Did you forge it or just stock removal? Either way, cool piece.
Re: Stuff you made
Stock removal. It’s not the prettiest thing but it’s heavy yet well balanced and works!

That’s very cool. Someone will find it in years to come and ponder for ages what specific but obscure hammering task it was created for.

That’s pretty cool.

Thanks guys. It’s not a tool I use terribly often but it sure comes in handy when you need to generate a decent amount of force in a small space where you can’t get a good swing.
Also when I’m working on repairing a slipjoint I’ve found a heavy hammer useful for the pins as it can be hard to be precise with a big swing. With a hammer like this you just line it up and let it drop a few inches.
I’m planning on making a couple anvils specific for little projects and repairs. Also I saw a vid of a guy making a battle axe out of a couple pieces of track so I might tackle a project like that eventually too.

I've made a few babies....actually, my ex-wife did most of the work but I helped. :)

I like doing stuff. Proudest of this, that I built in 2014:
Several thousand screws, I remember. Two weeks the wife and me; on one day a friend helped pulling up the main cross beam.

Recovered the knife in bocote. Used some of the bocote and a piece of scrap fire wood from a family trip to make myself a ring.

I also made a person. I little clone of myself even. My wife did most of the work but that little guy is 90% me and 10% her. I guess I have strong genes. :)

My daughter had an assignment on Native American Indians, she brought home a "to make" project list of probably over 20 things. I quickly scanned it and saw Tomahawk on the list, I looked at her and right there it is!
It really gave me an excuse to buy myself a new Stretch which I used from start to finish!
