What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
What's your favorite big Spyderco? (Everyone has their own definition of big)
These are my three favorite!
The Police 4 is my favorite folding Spyderco design. It carries very well for how large it is, the ergonomics are perfect for the size of my hands, and it cuts exceptionally well.
The Manix is nice when I want excellent corrosion resistance and grip security. It also has a really nice blade shape for using it as a camp food prep knife.
The Szabo is pretty unconventional, but the lines always spoke to me. The handle is amazing in any grip, in or out of the choil, regular or reverse grip. I love the thin tip, it pierces very well. Wish more knives used this type of compression lock too!

Manix 2. Though I haven’t yet tried a PM2 or Military.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
No mention of the Techno?
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
That Szabo model would be my favorite big Spyder up till now. It reminds me so much of one of my most favorite Spyders ever and that being the Massad Ayoob C-60 model. I also like a lot of other designs that Laci Szabo has done over the years and I do hope that him and Spyderco do more together in the future.
If you want to allow fixed blades into the sector of Big Spyders then I will add my original TEMPERANCE 1 model which also came in PE & SE both. It will probably be about my favorite fixed blade Spyder for years to come. Yeah it is that good IMO.

Biggest spyderco I have is pm2, so I can’t really play.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
I think I have to go with the Police 4.
I like the Manix 2 XL, but the (standard) K390 in the P4 definitely gives it the edge.

Mine is the KW CF/TI Military. S90V is hands down my favorite steel.

Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
Can't argue with you at all on the POLICE model Tom because it is probably the most overlooked and under appreciated Spyder ever the more I think about it. The POLICE model was one of the early Spyders that I really started to appreciate Spyderco as being the premier knife company as they have come to be. Probably it was about the 4th Spyder I bought back in the 90s and it was out of the ATS-55 era. I had one in CE and full SE both and I used them both a lot back in the day.
And the POLICE just quietly continues to be one Spyderco's most flagship models with few mentions of it here on the forum compared to many other models we all rave over.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
Flipper, I'd say the mamba. The grind lines and carbon scales just do it for me. That large blade flips out all nasty and upswept. I love it! Work horse goes to the hundred pacer. Nice tough steel. Unique, grippy, easy clean design. Plenty of blade length to slice through everything I come across. Fixed goes to the vg10 rock. Vg10 is just a favorite of mine. Takes a really sharp edge and will take a beating. I've chopped, sliced and bashed with it. Super easy to choke up on it and easily forget just how large the blade is. From starting a fire to using it to cook with, it's fantastic! Can we ever pick a true favorite? So many that are so close to top of my list.
I collect them all, and use them all! I use the excuse, "I'm trying to find the perfect one", but in reality, they are all perfect in their own way!
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
Police 4 and endura are my 2 favorites.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
I own three models I would consider big - Military, Police 4, and Endura. Although the Endura has not seen much action, both the Military and Police have.
The Military can't be beat in my book. I have one of each, the liner lock and R.I.L. Beautiful ergonomics, choice of materials and quality of construction, light weight, and stunning appearance. It has been used in starting more camp fires (no batoning), gutted more trout, and been carried more miles than any other folder. And of all the Spydercos in my collection, if this was a beauty pageant, the Military gets the tiara.
I think I will be taking a break from the Seki big knives for a while. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but I can't get over the lock rock on majority of my Japanese back locks.

The biggest knife that I've carried most, would be the Spydiechef.
Sometimes, ill pocket a Ti Military or an Endura, but I would consider the Spydiechef my favorite among those three.

Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
I guarantee my 2 favorites are ones I haven't yet owned. The native chief and the police 4. I love my military but I think I'd like the longer blade and back lock of the p4, and in a world where corrosion resistance didn't matter I would certainly prefer k390 over s110v.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
On the big side- Manix 2 XL is my favorite, Military is my second favorite.
Re: What's your favorite big-big Spyderco?
I would ABSOLUTELY get a Manix 2 XL, amd could see it as one of my favorites..... if it was a backlock. I don't know exactly why but axis locks (and variants) have never really appealed to me.

I'm firmly in the backlock camp myself, but the cbbl is my second favorite lock (assuming you consider triad locks and backlocks interchangeable). Slightly harder to closer, but it's got less vertical play and a similar strong self close.
If you're in the US I'd consider letting you borrow mine for a week.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
