You're darn right about that! I've learned so much in a limited time here. I'm a perfectionist, so this whole sharpening thing is a bit of a thorn in my side. Though all my edges are "sharp", I can't seem to get a few of them to the point I read from others here. Practice makes perfect...or more advanced sharpening systems haha.

You got it, practice is key! Sometimes it takes me a long time to get the edge I want, but usually if I stick to it I get it eventually.

I'm kind of a perfectionist myself when it comes to edges. Sometimes, if it's not going well, I just have to force myself to put the knife down and do something ese for awhile. :)

I cut a bunch of jade plant and unwanted shoots on my giant birds of paradise with my FFG Endura in VG-10. This blade was cut down for a homemade wave hook, so the spine is significantly thinner than stock. It works better than stock in this application because less wedgeing as it cuts. I recall reading that VG-10 was developed for horticultural uses, so I’m right in line with intended use! This was a last minute addition to top off my green waste bins that’ll be collected today.

I think most people here have been where you are so don’t give up.

I would suggest you stick with the brown medium rods for a bit. If you get it right through practice and technique your knife will be about as sharp as it’s going to get just by using those medium rods.

Try sharpening a paring knife and finish only to the medium stones 30 or 40deg setting doesn’t matter ... everything Connor and Pelagic said about clean crisp apex, no burrs then take your hand off the SharpMaker and take alternating passes with such little pressure that the SharpMaker doesn’t slide along the bench. Strop on your palm and go whittle hair. It’s all practice. :)

Hahaha, that would really ruin a great sandwich! That's worthy of $8-$10

Cut up some strawberries with my newly reprofiled and sharpened Calypso Jr Super Blue.

I took it down to about 10 dps and touched it up a bit on the UF rods in the 30° slots.
Got some practicing to do but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Just used my manix2 lw maxamet to open all 9 Byrd rescue 2's and prep some paracord for lanyards as gifts. This should make me best uncle ever! As a side note, for under $25 this knife is amazing! Dual purpose in the orange as 6 of them will go to family in Tennessee who are huge vols fans. :( poor things :p

I used my Tenacious to cut open the box my Paramilitary Blurple was mailed in. I have yet to cut anything with the S110V PM2 that came out of the box, not even a slice of paper.

It's great! I plan on reprofiling my PD#1 Mule sometime soon too. Maybe tomorrow.

This morning my brother dropped off a bunch of chisels and plane blades for me to sharpen as well. Got the chisels done. I had to do those freehand, but I'm hoping I can do the plane blades with the Hapstone. :)

My paracord is a little large for these lanyard holes :( . It works okay once you cram it in there though.

Had to cut yet another car bumper cover (this happens more than you'd believe) with my Autonomy, and in my haste I accidentally stabbed the street as the blade swiped through the urethane far easier than I expected and my hand jerked downward right into the pavement. Only very minimal edge damage on the very tip of the edge. H1 is a flippin beast of a steel.
