Stonewash or DLC?

Shiny! I want the stonewashed version.

Cutlery Shoppe Para 3 exclusives

#1

Post by awa54 »

It maybe a bit early to start a thread, but I'm hoping this will become the place where our resident social media trackers and industry insiders keep the rest of us up to date on the potential drop date of these two upcoming releases...

From a brief search of the forum it seems like more people are anticipating the DLC version, though I'm certain that they'll both sell through in just minutes or hours at the most!

When do the para3s drop? Couldn’t find anything on their website or Facebook.

I have never heard of an announcement about exactly when a sprint or exclusive will become available.

Really?

Most of the exclusives I've seen have had very precise announcements. I believe that the last three I saw (DLT 20CV Para 2, Fradon Manix 4v and St Nick's P3) all gave exact "to the minute" release announcements.

I did a forum search and a few people have said they're supposed to be out early 2019.

Going for both. Stonewash for a user and DLC for a looker. Big fan of XHP on my Chaparral LW, would love to try it on a bigger/tougher model. Can't wait for these!

What price point are we figuring, $140-$150?

I'm a sucker for black and orange so definitely going for the DLC version first but will probably end up with both.

I think the black and orange Native 5 LW looks amazing. I'd go for a para 3 in the combo.

I love Spyderco's stonewash and wish it was still on standard models. It's stainless so no point to me in DLC. I think it's too far away to know a release date yet. I wish they would do this combination on a PM2, or if the old one was stonewashed (which I couldn't find anything saying it was) do another run of the PM2 as well.

Really hoping it gets released before 2019! That's much too long to wait, lol. This would make a nice Christmas present to myself!

Will likely try for both. This one ticks all the boxes for me. I wish they would have done the Native LW and Manix LW in XHP instead of S90V. I would love to see a G10 Native, G10 Manix, and Military with DLC XHP and orange G10 at some point as well.

A non-coated blade is always my choice on stainLESS. As for finish, satin or stonewash is fine.

Totally not a fan of the way DLC coatings look over the long haul from hard use. Seen enough pictures to know its not for me.
I don't get why anyone would actually want DLC on a stainless blade that they plan to use. Judging from the poll results so far, most agree 2 to 1.

Now, for stainMORE high carbon steels like (52100, etc), if DLC helps hold your favorite rust inhibitor product in place, i'll give you that.
But even so, just not a fan of the way that blade will look years from now (if you actually put it to hard use).

Why am I expressing my opinion? Because the DLC lovers are extremely vocal, and not many of us opposed to DLC have taken the time to express our lack of love for it.

So far, I believe the poll results backup what I'm saying (well if you delete the undecided folks lol).

IF you have enough knives, you can rotate them and not have to hard use one in particular. Making them all last a little longer. I know if I'm going to be doing a lot of cutting on a particular day, I'll definitely grab a satin blade knife. If just opening packaging or cutting a bit of cardboard, I have no problem with a DLC blade. I guess having a variety and being prepared for whats at hand can help preserve the look of a DLC blade.

Not sure if 10G in Spyderco's qualifies as enough (pale comparison to some here), but so far only one of mine has DLC. The want for 4V ffg P3 overrode my dislike of DLC. So yea, begrudgingly bought it because had to have the 4V.

Can one truly own enough Spyderco's ?
