I think the small production run (500) is too small for an exclusive or a sprint run. The last really small production run that I recall was for the:
PARA-MILITARY 2 #C81CFPE2 PLAIN EDGE CARBON FIBER CPM 154/S90V
This was NOT a dealer exclusive but Spyserco's first CPM 154/S90V offering of this steel. This run was 300 pieces! Try to buy one of these...

From the auction site:

NEW Spyderco C81CFPE2 Carbon Fiber Paramilitary 2 w/ CPM154/S90V Composite Blade
Condition: New
Ended: Jun 12, 2018, 09:19:32 AM PDT
Price: US $779.95

Bottom line if an exclusive or a sprint run is less than 800-1200 pieces, flippers will drive prices very high and a good portion of us Spyderco die hards will be very unhappy. Spyderco should know this and NOT do super small runs that cause more dissatisfaction.
Guess they should just learn to be unhappy. As the Rolling Stones say, "You can't always get what you want".

There will always be flippers. Every hobby has them. It's unfortunate, but it's part of anything of limited production. You say Spyderco should make more pieces, but I don't think you realize they've done that in the past, and watched those sprints go to clearance because they didn't sell. As for dealer exclusive, they aren't free. In theory, a dealer could order more pieces, and they could also see that stock languish on their shelves for months or years. Frankly, I'm happy to see these exclusives sell out. As long as demand is there, there's a reason for Spyderco to keep pushing the envelope.

GEEZ!!!

Admittedly I am a Para 3 ho, but for $300 I need to get two of them. Or at least one and an Endura. The Para 3 is taking over the knife market and in a few years my be the only knives available anywhere. Or not.
Can you find it and can it cut?

Does anyone know how many of these were made?

I think they said 300 were in the first batch and I remember seeing a post they made when waiting for the 2nd batch. It had said 120 more passed quality control from spyderco and were on their way to River's Edge.

so maybe 420 were produced? or 500 or 600?? Is there any official word that anyone knows about?

I don't know but I hope they ordered another round of these. Kicking myself for not grabbing one.

I'm kind of hoping they switch to m390 or 20cv (supposedly there's an issue getting 204p in small sprint/exclusive quantities) and make another batch just to end this aftermarket craziness.

It would be cool if there was a second run of these knives in the same steel. Exact model so the flippers would not make money because they would not be rare anymore.

Thanks for replying.
I think the color scheme of this PARA3 is really great, but I can understand why some don't like it. Fits perfectly in nature... anywhere you go exploring you're almost always going to see browns and greens.

Hey Xander. Your best bet is over on Blade Forums or Reddit as any buy/sell/trade is not permitted in this venue. It confused me when I first joined as well, but now think its really nice not having that aspect of the hobby here.

I've been watching these on the popular auction site. These are commanding upwards of $400 or more at the moment so we're still at the height of the market. Great time to be a seller but horrible to be a buyer. This knife is not worth $400. Heck, it isn't worth $200 in my opinion.

Good luck with your search but I suggest considering if you really have to have this version because you're going to pay through the nose.

M390 is harder to get inside the US, I believe, particularly in large quantity.
