One thing to keep in mind, Roland, is that that sounds like conventionally produced Cru-wear, not CPM Cru-wear. CPM Cru-wear should have better toughness than 3V above 60 HRC, and better toughness than 4V and CPM M4 overall.
I missed that. Thanks !

Or 4v... Honestly. Rex45/m4 and 3v/4v would probably be must buys. But I'd definitely prefer Rex45/M4 by a huge Longshot, in what situation would the need for toughness of 3v/4v even surpass the advantage of hardness/wear resistance of the other mentioned steels?
Actually CPM M4 (not M4) - at least on paper - is quite tough, comparable to Cru-Wear, for example. If somebody would want to trade his M4 Mule against my 4V Mule, I just might say yes :)

WRT toughness, even CPM-s90v is not so bad, so for the time being, I'm quite happy with my CF Manix XL. I had a hard time choosing between CPM M4 and M390 in the poll (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81058), but finally I picked M390 since it would give me something I feel I don't have yet.

Roland.

I have a chopper in S7 and it's amazing. I can chop through multiple logs and still shave.

Haha, right tool for the job and all that. I'd hate S7 for a 3" blade folding knife.

What would you hate about S7 in a folder? Just curious. If it can still shave after chopping logs is that not enough wear resistance?

That's more a product of toughness than wear resistance.

S7 at 15 degrees per side makes a great chopper, but a poor knife for slicing cardboard.

ZDP189 at 8 degrees per side makes a great knife for slicing cardboard, but not for chopping.

I'd like a C95 sprint, but it's a lot different than the Manix XL. 4mm blade VS 3mm, and the weight was another 1-1.5oz heavier.

I love both versions of the knife and would take either in a DLC sprint.

PS - Does it bother anyone else that we went from having a Manix & Mini Manix, to having a Manix XL & Manix? I still think the Mini Manix should be referred to as the mini, because it is a small knife. The XL is the true Manix IMO.
Yes, this exactly!! :D A sprint of the ol’ big boy himself, complete with the Dino jimping! Sorry to chime in so late on this... ;)

And yes, the nomenclature has always bugged me too, especially since the true “mini Manix” is the Native 5 (per the actual model histories).

+1! Orginal C95 Manix sprint with Dino Jimping and DLC Rex45, Cruwear, or 4V. Count me in!

I had an old Stretch with peel ply cf and dino jimping. I'd say the jimping was not as good as modern jimping.

I'd say the same about the old "gear" style jimping.

St. Nick's knives is a retailer with a para 3 coming out in 4v, I planted the seed with them that a M2XL would be great in a tough steel, see what happens.
:spyder: Ben,

The North Remembers.

Wants: Manix 2 XL CPM-M4 or 4V, Compression Lock, Tip-up Military, Yojimbo 2 XL.

Great call! Im super pumped for the Para 3. A Manix 2 XL would in 4V would be a legendary knife. 4V was second only to Cruwear in the poll as well, so there should be plenty of demand, especially with that great Red / DLC color scheme!

CPM-M4 would be my preference, but I would buy Rex 45, Cruwear, 52100, etc... So far I have bought every single one of them ever produced in a steel other than S30V (plus the S30V DLC model). That was easy, since there has only ever been a single one ... the Knifeworks S90V carbon fiber exclusive -- a fantastic knife!

The important thing is that the Manix 2 XL is looong overdue for a sprint or exclusive. We've got to keep hope alive :p
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.
