Future of the PowerLock
Future of the PowerLock
I really like this lock on the Chinook 4 and Tatanka. The Tatanka has been discontinued. So now there's only one knife in the catalog with a PowerLock.
Sal has stated that going forward they would make fewer high-end models in Seki City, where the PowerLock was developed.
So I'm wondering - does this lock have a future at Spyderco? Would Spyderco consider manufacturing a PowerLock outside of Seki City?

Maybe on the Sage series? The 4 is discontinued so it seems like a possibility.
Re: Future of the PowerLock
Heck I didn't know the Chinook 4 had it?
Problem is it seems like a large bit of mechanisms all working together, it may be too much to put on a shorter/smaller knife.

Re: Future of the PowerLock
I love the power lock in both. What nobody tells you is that besides being a strong lock, it makes opening easier without having to compromise on blade centering of a long folder - I can easily finger flick Tatanka and Chinook 4, but have difficulties with the big classic back locks (e.g., Chinook 1-3 & Manix).
A Police 4, Military or even Szabo with power lock, or any new >= 4" knife would be great !

Re: Future of the PowerLock
I’d like to try it out. The Tatanka didn’t do anything for me. I would hope that we’d see it on another knife soon. The Military with a new lock sounds intriguing!

Re: Future of the PowerLock
No real interest in it myself, since I'm not a fan of really large knives and the midlock works fine with the 3.5" and under blades on the knives I use.
Still, if Spyderco holds the patent for the PowerLock, there's no reason it could not be used on knives from Taiwan, Golden, and Italy.

Re: Future of the PowerLock
Yes I was surprised to find that the PowerLock has a different action from a lock back. I also like the lack of any blade play.ferider wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 3:24 pmI love the power lock in both. Re: Future of the PowerLock
I've been looking at the Chinook, largely to try out the new lock. I'd like to see a Manix XL with one, or dare I say it, a Manix XXL :D
May you find peace in this life and the next.
Re: Future of the PowerLock
I'd love it on the Military.
Re: Future of the PowerLock
I can see it now: Full Lined, XXL, Powerlock, S110V or LC200N...
Drool...
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I love the M2, but it's too small and I despise the cbbl.

Linerless G10 manix 2 xl powerlock in LC200n (or s30v tbh)

Re: Future of the PowerLock
Manix XXL sounds intriguing. I’d love to try a Powerlock-equipped folder, but neither the Tatanka or Chinook speak to me. A Military 2 with a Powerlock would be very hard to resist.

Re: Future of the PowerLock
yes it seems like too much development and investigation to create this awesome lock was "wasted" by using it only in two models, one of which is now discontinued

Re: Future of the PowerLock
Well yeah, I'd have to agree. And if they're only going to use it on larger models made in Seki City, then apparently the PowerLock will be rarely used in the future.ThePeacent wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 3:49 amyes it seems like too much development and investigation to create this awesome lock was "wasted" by using it only in two models, one of which is now discontinued
Hopefully Sal will chime in with some thoughts.
Re: Future of the PowerLock
Will we ever get a Military 2? Stop lock or Powerlock?
Re: Future of the PowerLock
I don't think so. Military 2 rumors have been floating around since before I got into Spyderco almost 15 years ago.
The last three Millies I bought, I debated waiting for the Millie 2 instead. The most recent of those purchases was two years ago. I gave up and moved on to other models.
Now if it ever does come out, and it has tip up and a self closing mechanism in the lock, I'll happily eat my shoe.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
