Vtoku meerkat?

#1

Post by silvershade255 »

Rumor going around that some of the papers that came with the manbug mention a vtoku meerkat. Has anybody else come across this or any mention of it?

Hey, everyone:
I can confirm this. We're working on a product announcement now since it wasn't published in the catalog or the mid-year. We'll do our best to get that sent out next week so everyone (like your favorite dealer) has the information they need. ;)
There is nothing more important than this one day.

Cool! This makes me want to carry the HAP40 Meerkat again!
Will definitely pickup a VTOKU Meerkat! The blue/grey FRN is an easy sell for me.

Oh man... I was pretty set on the DragonFly in V-Toku2 but this throws a bit of a wrench in that plan!

I've got a second Hap40 Meerkat on the way, so this is great news.

Apologies if I spoilt the meerkat announcement. I was just flicking through my paperwork and hadn't seen it mentioned so I asked the question on a facebook page. It is listed as a model due for v-toku2 on the Manbug insert.

This is great. It’s good to see the Meetkat continue on, it’s a great design.

I've always wanted to try the Phantom Lock, maybe this will be the one.

The lock is clever and a fun puzzle for people who aren’t familiar with it. But honestly the Meerkat is a great knife aside from the lock.

the meerkat looks like a sweet design. i wish it would make a more regular appearance in a less steel-nerdy steel. these weird clad steels just don’t appeal to me at all, although i do understand their appeal for some. i just want something good for everyday with easy maintenance and corrosion resistance. xhp? lc200n? s35vn? vg10?

XHP would be great but Hap40 is a great every day steel. It's a tool steel but doesn't spot too easily and the cladding really helps. It holds an edge like s30v or s35vn but it is tougher than those. It also feels sharper.

That's great news! As a colored-handle nerd, I'm also curious how the V-Toku blue FRN handle will compare to the 2009 blue Meerkat sprint.

I like HAP40, but the outer layer of SUS410 seems to scratch really easily. I suppose this is just vanity but I'd like to see something a touch more resistant.

Having said that, I'll totally buy one in V-Toku. But I still hope for a Nishijin XHP or ZDP Meerkat one of these days ...

I said I'd be in for one of these in Hap40 and I waffled. I'm definitely interested in V-Toku2.

That's really cool! Thanks for the announcement. I already preordered a VToku Dragonfly but I may pick up a meerkat as well. The phantom lock looks really cool. Plus I love smaller knives :)

My Endura in VToku loses its edge quickly. Others with better credentials have also noticed this. Your mileage may differ.
