Can You See This Image ?

#1

Post by Mad Mac »

I need a favor. Some people tell me they cannot see my pictures
but others make comments indicating they must be seeing them.
So, I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

Image

If you can see the picture above, let me know what browser you are using and whether or not you have a Google account.

If you cannot see it, same question.

Thank you for your assistance.

That beer sure looks refreshing!

Chrome and Google account.

I can also see it with the Samsung browser but not logged into any Google account.

I can't see it with either Safari or Firefox (on a Mac). I don't have a Google account.

Okay, I think we are getting somewhere.

Evidently, only Google account holders, people with gmail and so forth,
can see a big picture embedded on a forum web page
created with a right mouse click and copy image location in a Google Photo album.

Here is an official Google's "share" link to the photograph I submitted for the calendar contest
that some people were not able to see.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/mD8S3qojmUAwqNw78

If you did not see the photo in the first post on this thread or the calendar photo,
please click on the link above and see if you can see that photo.
It should take you to a Google Photos album web page with the photo in it.
You can click on that image to make it full sized.
It should work for Google account holders also.

Thank you one and all for your assistance.

In the past, I used Picasa for a photo album and editor. Google bought Picasa. Google then created Google Photos and rolled up Picasa in it. Then Google stopped supporting Picasa.

With Picasa, photographers could post images anywhere and everyone could enjoy them. Google now has created a barrier and seems to be trying to force everyone to visit Google Photos and open Google accounts. Google is really beginning to annoy the heck out of me.

Mad Mac,
I can't see the image above (it's just a grey box with a big hyphen in the middle) but when I click on your link I can see it. I'm on Chrome and I have a Google account (sorry if that messes with your theory). Now I'm off for a cold drink - your picture made me thirsty. :)

With Google Photos you are supplying a link to your photo there. The photos you see here are displayed on the forum page as it loads so they are immediately viisble because the hosting server allows a copy of the image to temporarily appear on the forum page in response to the [img] HTML command.

Google then enforces a separate step, having the user click the link to the Google Photos site instead of auto-request the image copy. I’m not fond of that either, but images have to be stored somewhere — your hard drive, a server somewhere — and that has a cost associated with it. Most of us want that service to be both free and easy. Who, then, is going to pay for the servers, storage, maintenance, development, marketing?

I have my solution which I have discussed elsewhere here. It takes a bit more work on my part, not much, and in return I have built a small photo repository that I own and control. I also use Google Photos. I would be amiss if I did not. There’s are just too many advantages not to.

I cant see it either using Chrome on a windows 10 desktop. I highly recommend imgur. You can upload to a private album and it doesn't compress the pictures at all. :)

It looks like the URL to your photo is really long:

Code: Select all

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/uaFybPR3ZFChcs5OllydzbnYxLjXpDKH8akBY1FBHNZ5iA6jq5Tjodxd7YfetE3zilNcURhcvNXSe1ybpJHWLYUbZqUZxkd1K_0x9Sa0l3J1obdPrp_VZ2kbry5L5Ffl78T3lhttfSssexcRXV9AR4reHjS6YrEQFPvNbRBBWX7ZpYVFqNOmPuupSD-3nwhQsmyo2nP6BvfjIJqDilTrXhyarW8OM-iCfK26JC3oiFKQbfM8x2-zQEb6EmZ1mvDEVbmdju546drS6-f6j_M5i-dd1sLmDQvnJfOGwo2TLyl9eXM3loY9DSQ6DAAqyjIzmIbwUgpyxw1MexSenzxskj18oDJ8BY5GnU4hQrNIKrONgT9tp-XN-l5zyj1sK4vdNzbZAw3bBlavILfHXsmxfwDWavkHPjanlzoxVRSYoJ0uIRX9UgquBYgHvH8VPzEiGlElqTiR7rK62jMyoe34LFwIx8rs4XrumTqyOk55p_C1BtYVBbVNFyUK5E8fmG2mGdDE4alSL72eJh-zi81nfGMM2ac5oT6ZMEmcZ1ipsk3bGINclgLEq8j39z8=s837-w837-h628-no
I'm not sure if that could be causing the problem. Also to note is that the URL doesn't end with .jpg or anything to tell the web browser that it is actually a picture.

You are correct, Sir. However, if I convert it to a Tiny Url, I still have the same problem.

Yeah, I think google's tiny url's still don't end with .jpg or something for a web browser to notice.

OK, I'll bite... how does posting or embedding off imgur work? I just signed up to try to get some pics to show here and they failed just like Instagram did

tried all the options from both that were readily available in the interface

my Flickr account works fine, but I don't want to use storage there for casual web stuff

Here is a link to a free app for Chrome on the Google Chrome Web Store.
It lets me add the jpg extension to my Google Photos for posting to forums.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... aodckbcafg

Here is a picture of newborn calf on our place for example.

Image

It is still a long URL, but at least now it can be converted to a https://tinyurl.com/ if need be.
