K390 and M390 in Seki

#1

Post by bearfacedkiller »

We have the Police4 in K390 and in my opinion the price was very reasonable for what you get. This gives me hope that we could see more of it in other models. Maybe the full Seki frn family? I would love a Stretch and a Delica in K390. Would others be interested?

Also, if we can get K390 over there then I do not see why it would be difficult to get M390 over there. Is this a possibility? I would prefer K390 but also realize that many, and the market in general, prefers stainless steels? We just had a thread started that was basically asking for just this.

So, even though we don't know if M390 is an option I put it in the poll. You can pick one or the other or both. Lets gauge some interest here and maybe Sal will chime in with a thumbs up or thumbs down on the M390 option.

Thanks in advance for your input and I look forward to your responses.

I would like to see both. Probably more so M390 though.

There is a place for both in my lineup. I would like to have a DF in these steels, just because. An Endura in K390 and a Caly 3.5 in M390 would be interesting.

I like both too. I only have the K390 Urban, so my experience is limited, but I like how it sharpens. Same with M390.

I wouldn't mind seeing either used in Seki models.

Before answering, I'd have to know whether either or both of those steel are at least as stainless as VG-10. If they are, then I'd welcome them in an FRN Stretch, otherwise, zero interest.

M390 sure, because I prefer stainless. They can use k390 I just won't buy it.

K390 definitely is not. I cannot make a direct comparison between M390 and VG10 in regards to corrosion but M390 is very stainless. I know you value corrosion resistance highly and I would recommend M390 to you. It won't be as easy to sharpen as VG10 but it isn't difficult either.

Those would both sell well IMO, especially M390.

Full Seki lineup in K390 please :) Preferably FRN (rather than G10 like the P4) so I can afford to buy the entire series.

M390 is great, but I'm not nearly as excited about more of it because there are already a ton of knives out there with the steel (or 204p/20cv for that matter). K390 has been a borderline magical experience for me, but its availability is limited to very few models - A massive folder, a tiny (sold out) non-locking folder, and a (sold out) fixed blade. It has potential to be my favorite steel, but It's hard to compare apples to apples with these being the only options and none of them being my EDC preference.

Yes, absolutely. I don't like the looks of laminated steels (haven't seen any performance issues though), so I have been hoping for some full sprint runs in solid steels. Solid Hap40 would be cool, as would solid Super Blue, Hap5R, SRS-15, SRS-13, whatever. Solid M390 and K390 runs would be great! DLT should do a line of exclusives with M390 and Red FRN! :)

BUT, all of that said, if we can get a run of sprints in solid blade from Bohler-Uddeholm, my vote would really go to Vanadis 4E (aka V4E). It is supposed to be similar to CPM-4V. It would be amazing to get the full Seki line with solid blades of this steel!

Honestly, I'm more interested in them in Golden models like the Manix 2 and Native.

I'd definitely be in for Dfly in K390 or M390 though.

I would prob get either to try but would really like more M390. It could also be 204P or 20CV if here in the states might be cheaper than importing but the real question is which color would the M390 handles be? Red? Blue? I think I heard something recently about the trainers not being the only red handles anymore. Red and blue zome? lol I really liked the green and yellow s30v one they did

Elmax is a Bohler steel too. Should I have included it too?

I was mainly looking at Bohler steels as they were already importing K390 and I suggested M390 because it seemed like the more logical choice from a business standpoint due to its popularity. Elmax doesn’t seem as popular anymore. I would be happy with it too.

I've been thinking along the same lines as you. We have K390 and now M390 in Seki. So maybe we can see some V4E, Elmax, AEB-L, or even Sleipner. A full run of sprints in any of these steels in a nice new FRN color (how about an earth tone green with TiCN?) would surely do very well. V4E would be a HUGE hit I would expect. I'd like to see the Jester in the next run whatever it is.

I'd go one of everything in K390 . I'd be more than satisfied if they ran it like the Police model.
