FRN Police 4

#1

Post by supracor »

We know that Sal is thinking about the creation of a FRN Police 4.
It would surely be made in Japan. Knowing this, in what steel and in what color would you like to see it?

Personally i'd like to see it in Ivory white FRN / ZDP-189, or Crimson FRN / HAP72 :)

Easy!

1) Dark blue/K390

2) BRG/ZDP189

Black FRN & LC200N PE
Black FRN & SE H1
Black FRN & PE VG10 with DLC coating

I'd find any of those acceptable. I don't plan to buy into the P4 series until they come out with a DLC or stainless offering.

FRN P4 in a rust proof steel would be THE ultimate folding knife EDC for my uses.

No decisions have been made as the FRN tooling is still being made. But my leanings are much like what's been mentioned. The edge junky's like Darby will want K390 & ZDP (as will I). The market will want VG-10 (reliable and affordable) H1 & LC are always a possibility. We'll watch and see what others like.

I would prefer stainless for this model. Vg10 is fine for my uses. I'd be very happy with hap40 laminate as well. I'll be buying this model regardless of steel or color. It is my most anticipated upcoming knife. I'm really hoping we see it next year. I already have the g10 k390 police and am hoping this model will hit around the $100 price mark. Lc200n and an aqua blue would be a dream and I'd be willing to pay more for the lc200n. Gray, brown, any shade of blue, or olive drab green would be swell.

Will there be steel liners? Personally, I want them on this one.

I'm all in on a VG10. I already have the K390 so the edege junkies can get their fix with it. For me, keeping the $ down is a priority on a FRN version. Police blue scales would be cool. :)

I really hope this model becomes a big success and we see it run in a variety of steels. Thanks for bringing it to the market, regardless of what the blade ends up being made from.

I'd like a gray VG10 Police FRN to match my Endura. Alternatively, any color FRN with a DLC blade, because dye apparently works fine on FRN and I don't mind doing a little extra work to customize a knife to a superawesome blackout version. Full serrations would be nice too. No liners preferred.

Throwing this out there: frn police 4 with black blade and od green scales. I know, its been seen before. But that color combo is supreme.

Seems like good business sense may suggest that a base model in VG10 with a sprint or two may make the most sense. Maybe do the sprint first? :D

I just hope it retains the exposed steel liners/backspacer. the way "FRN meets FRN" on the back side of the delica, endura, etc. is one my biggest peeves about the knives coming from the Seki factory.

Wants: Manix 2 XL CPM-M4 or 4V, Compression Lock, Tip-up Military, Yojimbo 2 XL.

Disagree brother. I'm hoping for nested liners or a liner-less approach (unlikely given the intended use of the Police model) like the 2nd gen Salt knives or the Manix2/Native5 lightweight models.

I like FRN, but the transition from the scales, to the backspacer, and back, just isn't smooth, the backspacer protrudes some, possibly due to pressure from the lock spring. perhaps recess the backspacer like on the Native 5 LW? but please include washers :D

The Delica backspacer here, protrusion seems relatively minimal on this specimen, i've seen it worse.

Native 5 LW Backspacer, MUCH cleaner. I would love to see all nested FRN versions go this way.

And then there is the chappie, man that is a thing of beauty:

But I digress off topic, carry on gents.

Yeah, I've noticed the FRN edges not matching up on the back of my Endura also. Taking sandpaper to it fixed the problem nicely though. As problems go, it's one of the least irritating for me because it's so easily fixed. It's still annoying to have to sandpaper a brand new knife myself though, seems like the kind of thing that should be done before it leaves the factory. The Native does cost more than the Endura though, that probably has something to do with its nicer fit and finish.

If you make a SALT Police model I will squeal like a girl at a Justin Bieber concert...

Now that I think about it, that might make you not want to make it... :D
