This thread’s start was ill-advised, I’d have to say.

Love that this forum doesn't stand for casual misogyny.

Also, isn't the PAC salt pinned?

My girl has some quite pricey knives I've given her. She uses them more than I do now days, gets them dirtier, and yet maintains them to a much better extent than I.

There's no room for sexism in this hobby.

Yeah. I agree with knivesandbooks. A hobby is a hobby. Don't take it too seriously. The knives my wife has are much better maintained than mine and have taken the place of our kitchen knives. If I am looking for a knife that I can't find my best guess is to ask her. Only because we live together, not because of sexism.

I am with the others, sounds like poor maintenance and if it fell apart on her it could have happened to anybody and had nothing to do with gender. If it truly was her lack of attention than all this is is a learning opportunity. Educate her and she will be better for it. As Sal likes to say, if people knew better they would do better.

Sometimes the best lessons in life are learned the hard way. That is directed at you by the way. ;)

Interestingly, countless studies have shown that women typically have a better attention to detail then men.

I will take it a step further.

I have a Pacific Salt black FRN H-1 black Blade Plain Edge and I let my girlfriend use it.
No, she didn't cut herself, stab someone else, or throw it out in the trash. Something much worse....
While she was using it, she didn't notice the screws came loose and the knife came apart.
Could it be that the wife knows about the girlfriend and took the lock screw out ?

My wife also shoots tighter groups than me with a handgun when time is taken between shots. Only when it's more rapid fire can I hold the tighter group. I remember that when I tick her off, lol.

Once we get over sexism and ego we appreciate things for what is more realistic. A poorly maintained tool should have never been given to another person for them to feel bad when that tool fell apart.

^ I have observed that many women are excellent target shooters and many pick it up quickly. They seem to have great focus and great attention to the details. It is almost frustrating, my wife has very little interest in shooting but it comes quite naturally to her.

Sounds to me that some of you guys should never accuse your wives of ruining your knives!

I am V E R Y M U C H my own girl, thank you very much. I also know how to use, disassemble, reassemble and sharpen my knives, thank you very much as well.
At the same time, I have no issues teaching my girlfriend how to safely and efficiently use knives.

I sincerely hope gender poses no dividing line on these forums.

There doesn't seem to be much to worry about in that respect. :)

Hi Sigrid,

Welcome to our forum.

We've got quite a few girls on this forum that can hold their own with any knife. My wife, Gail, being among them.

We've never seen a gender problem on this forum. Don't expect we'll see one in the future.
