One of the most beautiful knives ever: Nishijin Dragonfly

I have been carrying my Nishijin Dragonfly lately and am, again, stunned at how beautiful this little knife is. No picture can do justice, even remotely, to the scales on this knife. The polishing on the ZDP-189 blade and other metal parts is smooth and lovely. To me, this is one of the prettiest little knives ever made. I now wish I had bought two.

I would love to see Spyderco re-issue this knife in another color of Nishijin, perhaps red.

I bought the Nishijin Cricket and love it but have often wondered if I should have gotten the Dragonfly instead.

I kind of prefer the blue Nishijin but never did pick up the spin. I would be happy to see some blue Nishijin used in a model I prefer. A blue Nishijin Dragonfly would be cool. The Chaparral is meant to highlight handle materials. What about a blue Nishijin Chap?

Pictures don’t capture its true beauty but the stuff is stunning in the right lighting.

I have an R and a Lum Chinese in the black/gray Nishijin and I agree, it's a really great looking material. I wonder if it's strong enough to use for a linerless application?

M390/Sleipnir/Elmax Urban Sprint anyone?

Same here. I’d have one but finances say no. Someday maybe. It’s probably the only Spyderco I lust after: Bob Lum design, Spyderco made, Nishijin blue… Wow!

Bloke, just get one!

I like the blue quite a lot, though I do not have a knife in it. The reason is because I did not want the knife models. However, a Dragonfly, and of course a Chaparral, would be a killer in that color, and red would be very unusual. This is just beautiful stuff.

Those are some great pictures. Sadly, no picture can capture Nishijin and even come close to its beauty in person. One day, someone will shoot it in 3D, perhaps a video, and then we will see if that can do it justice.

I think we need a poll on Nishijin colors and knives. What do you all think? Maybe Sal will take note.

Agreed Dan, pictures do not do it justice. They do show how much lighting effects how it looks but they still do not capture that in its full effect. In great sunlight it has an amazing 3D depth to it.

I have a Nishijin Dragonfly heading my way. I didn't pay much attention to it when it was new but have been wanting to add a Dragonfly to the collection and thought this would check a lot of boxes.

You need to get it in the Sun or into good light to really see the 3D depth and the changes in texture in the scales.
