Return of the Viele?

#1

Post by Wightknight »

Is there a plan to bring back the Viele?

Crocblades.com are advertising it as if they expect it to be in stock from theend of February. (See http://www.crocblades.com/store/catalog ... uct=C97BMP)

I hope this is correct as it is one that I would really like to add to my collection and was sorry I missed out when it went out of production.

Spyderco would not likely "bring back" a model and make it the exact same way. Something would have to be different or the collector value of the original is affected.

Now a smaller Viele might be nice.

Sal,

Count me in for that one! I prefer the smaller knives.

Could you also consider changing the colour of the micarta scales to increase the difference?

Sal,

I'd also be interested in a smaller Viele model.

Looks good Chinook, good enough to make me wish I was right handed. Then again between the PE 93mm, Atlantic Salt, Nav II, ZDP Calypso Jr, CF Harpy, Sal's "Kopa of the Month Club", not to mention the new Ed Schempp designs being hinted at, perhaps it's a good thing there are a few that are too right handed to be practical for me.

The Viele is and always has been one of my favorite carrys for the office. Smaller would make it better.

Don't forget the Ocelot and the Navigator II that are comming in the first quarter!

Still I will buy one as soon as NGK will be selling them!

Dang Nicky, had the Nav II on my list, but missed the Ocelot, and I have to get one of those to keep this thing company...

Either that Wotanson, or CrocBlades and a couple other "e-tailers" have been sharing a crack pipe. :D Think its pretty much a question of "when will it really hit the streets" and "how big is it" (or rather "how small is it" as Sal seems to have hinted it will be smaller).

Hardkiss, as far as I know, the Wegner in that picture is one of a kind.

There are no definite plans to bring back the Viele - please see Sal's comments above.

Sal makes it clear that they cannot just start making a limited edition product again. However, he did suggest that a new variant could be produced - perhaps a smaller model.

If enough forumites express an interest, I am sure Sal will start to consider the project seriously.

Are there any variations/improvements you would like to suggest, Rob?

Post by Wightknight »

Hi Sal,

Would the Viele work as a slipjoint?

I think you know where I am going with this .....

I too saw 2005 but no Q1, maybe a disturbance in the force directed at Dutch Spydie knights! :D

Back on topic...

Sal, As I told you before, the Viele is a very classy design, which would even more so be the case if a mini-version would come out ;) But please make it just a hint lefty-friendly by improving the access to the opening hole on the clipside of the handle.
