Scooters
I have a large motorcycle. I ride every day because the traffic is horrendous. I recently bought a Honda 150cc PCX scooter. What a revelation! I can get around a whole lot easier. It is a lot more comfortable to ride (I do have risers on the bars) than my motorcycle and it is so light I can whip it around like a bicycle. It has a top speed of about 75mph (125 kph) so it is plenty fast for inside the city, even on Interstates. I would not feel comfortable riding on rural interstates where speeds are faster and big trucks can blow you around.
I can put a lot of stuff under my seat and I also have a trunk on the back. I can go to the grocery store and carry a week's worth of groceries back, no problem.
I like this scooter so much that I am giving serious thought to selling my big bike and buying a slightly larger scooter than the one I have for when I go out of town. Those big scooters, if you have ever ridden one, handle better or as good as most motorcycles and are far more comfortable to ride for distance.

Re: Scooters
I have wanted a Ruckus for a long time but it would be very impractical out where I live now.
Can you get a Honda Silverwing over there? I had a coworker who had one and loved it.
I ride a Honda dualsport motorcycle. It has all of the easy maneuverability you speak of but none of the practicality. It isn't much good for grocery shopping except for what you can fit in a backpack. It does have some cool factor though.

The Silverwing is great but they cost as much as a small house, here.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 1:19 amI have wanted a Ruckus for a long time but it would be very impractical out where I live now.

The Honda PCX has 2 new versions coming out this year: A hybrid and a full electric. The electric does not have any storage space, but there are no trips to the gas station, either. One thing about a small scooter or motorcycle is that you can park anywhere.
I have ridden the big touring bikes from Harley and Honda. However, they are large and very heavy. A large scooter is lighter, and it is more comfortable. The seating position is like an easy chair and you can stretch out your legs if you want to do so. A lot of executives use these. BMW has a nice couple of maxi scooters, and so do many other companies. There is even a monster 850cc scooter.
One of the advantages is that the engines are located much lower in the frame (some scooters have motorcycle frames and some have scooter frames) so the center of gravity is lower. This makes them highly maneuverable and they feel lighter, as well.

Re: Scooters
Not sure Doc, but I’d pay good money for one myself.
I’ve been laughing at this one since I found it. I showed it to beloved wife and even she had a good laugh then told me I was an idiot. I denied it of coarse. Ah, hahaha!
I haven’t had a road bike since not long after our kids were born. I’ve still got an old Yamaha XT 250 at a mate’s property I use paddock bashing chasing pigs but I haven’t even done that in near four years.
I’ve been tempted to buy a little Honda 110 Post Man’s bike of late to ride to the beach which is less than 1.5km away but uphill on the way home. Now I want one like the one in the Gif. Ah, hahaha!
Ride Safe! :)

Re: Scooters
The PCX is really popular here where there are loads more scooters on the roads now due to the internet take-out delivery craze.
The biggest issue with some maxi scooters is the huge amount of unsprung weight. Have you seen the Honda X-Adv? It maybe what you’re after.
As well as my BMW 1200, I have a Vespa GTS 300 which is excellent for town use, particularly with all the storage, although the smallish wheels are a pain on rougher roads. The bigger engine is great for 2-up - I had kitted my old Vespa et4 with a 190 top end (from 125cc). You can play with variator weights and exhausts all you like on a 4t but I eventually learnt that it’s cubes that matter. That Vespa lasted 14 years before it rotted out, which isn’t too bad for a) Italian b) living near the sea.
It won’t be long before we’re all electric, though, I guess.
The photo is of Quadrophenia being shown on Brighton beach last night! (If you have to ask it doesn’t matter).

The PCX is all electric at the end of this year.

If you get a Honda 150cc PCX you will be happier than with the Honda 90cc. It is the perfect go to the beach bike.

Re: Scooters
Our son just moved from five years in NYC to San Francisco. Either place is great for scooters with storage. Traffic is dense and parking near to impossible. That’s what I would have in either place.

I have not even started on Yamaha. BMW and Yamaha have heated grips and seats, radio, blue tooth, GPS, and all sorts of things.

Re: Scooters
Might you not find them a bit dull after a proper bike? The maxi scooters are regarded as commuters here, mostly, although the Yamaha TMax has always been well regarded as one of the sportier scoots.
I looked very carefully at the Honda X-Adv last year but the salty price plus £600 extra for the foot pegs (!!) and lack of luggage took it off the possibles list. The dct transmission is appealing though. Haven’t seen a single one in the wild here yet, although saw several in Rome last year.

Re: Scooters
This is what I’ve been thinking about Doc.
Colloquially called a Postie Bike because our Postmen used to ride them and in some places maybe still do and they’re popular and small farms too.
They’re cheap as chips here, secondhand off coarse and I was mistaken they’re actually 110cc of raw power. :p

Re: Scooters
I recently added an entry-level "small" bike to my garage, and it's the only one I ride now, for many of the same reasons. It's small, lightweight, nimble, feels like a bicycle, etc. I tried going smaller first, but found my happy medium in the 999cc Indian Scout Sixty. Everything I tried that was smaller just didn't have that fun-factor for me, what I guess is the minimal accelerations and good sounds + comfort.
Scooter's scare me with their smaller diameter tires, which is my main reason for sticking with a "proper" motorcycle.
The big one is the most comfortable and best handling bike I've ever had, but it's been neglected ever since I got the small one. Might also have something to do with how I put more into the Scout, more accessories to customize it to my needs and stuff, but I often wonder why I still have the big one sometimes. I only wish the Scout had cruise control.
