Maxamet Native 5 - first thought

#1

Post by aquaman67 »

I've been carrying an S110V lightweight Native as my work knife since they came out.

I recently picked up a Maxamet version.

My first thought when I opened my new Maxamet Native 5 was - this is heavier.

Sure enough - it's 0.05 ounces heavier. It's funny to me that anyone could even tell the difference. But after you handle something every day for years I guess the human body learns.

So - I have a question.

Why is the Maxamet Native heavier? Is Maxamet just more dense?

As a side note I really like the color. Good job!

I had been carrying the never summer exclusive LC200N Native LW for a bit before I picked up the Maxamet LW. I noticed the weight right away as well. Maxamet is dense. :D

0.05 oz is nothing. Difference in blade grind can easily swing that much.

Lol, a new knife that's never been sharpened usually outweighs a knife that has been EDC'd for a long period of time.

!.4 grams? It is called tolerance. You keep it tight where it needs to be. Less where it is not important.
I have one of those and I do like it.
Knives like these make good workknives.

Maxamet has a lot of tungsten, and tungsten is very dense, about the same density as gold, 70% more dense than lead.

Yes, DLC or Cerakote Maxamet.
No more liner locks. Lock backs and fixed blades are the only knives. Get rid of the weak. Our desire for steel is as our desire for gemstones, they are software to our bioelectric hardware.

Yeah, I can feel a difference. The Maxamet Native just feels more a little bit more heavy and solid in the hand than my S90V Cutlery Shoppe Exclusive DLC Orange Native LW. I measured on my postal scale and the Maxamet is 70 grams and the S90V is 68 grams. I just think Maxamet is more dense. Like how Gold, Lead, Tungsten, etc are all more dense and heavy than other metals like Titanium if you were weighing a piece that was the same size physically.
