I am wondering why spyderco does not make a knife/cigar cutter,
they could use the whole as a gilulotine and it could crop the cigar in the closed position like the al mar one
This would be a great stainless knife. It's a logical play because of the whole and that cigars stores often carry gentlemen knives anyway
Just don't use a SE. My new para bit me (this makes three times in a week!) when I went to cut the end on a stogie. Went through the cigar like butter and got my thumb.
i've yet to find a 'knife blade' that could cleanly cut a cigar. even the sharpest blades still pinch and leave 'hangers'. i stick to a simple yet elegent guillotine cutter. especially when the cigars i smoke cost nearly as much as the spyderco's i carry :-)
I simply turn the cigar gently under the blade to cut around the cap which then pops right off without damage to the filler. Either PE or SE works fine. I've never ruined a smoke.

Yep, The Dodo PE works perfect for that application with its little curve.

I think you would be surprised how many of us enjoy a fine smoke. I generally lean more towards pipe smoking, but will indulge myself with a cigar on occasion.

you should really check them out. There is no finer pipe tobacco, period.
A Spyderco cigar cutter would be a nice addition to the line. I would buy one anyway.

Ok I resigned myself to the fact that since no one from Spyderco commented on this thread that I but the Al MAr for now. In the future I hope Spyderco gets the message. My cigar store will soon be carring the full knife line of Xilar because they make cutters. .

On thicker cigars I often perform a V-cut. A sharp knife works like a charm.

I take great pleasure in cutting a fine hand rolled cigar with a razor sharp Spyderco folder. I've tried many different Spydies to cut cigars, all different size cigars, and the one that worked best for me was the Calypso Jr in VG-10. It does take some practice, but now with a sharp Calypso I can do just as good a job as my best fancy German made double bladed guillotine cutter. And its cooler and much more fun.
Does anyone just bite and spit away the tip of the cigar? That's class! :rolleyes:
Speaking for my part, most of the cigars I found here have the tip(s) already adjusted. I'd love a :spyder: cigar cutter anyway :)

sorry but not even the sharpest spydie can cleanly cut the triple cap of a well-constructed havana. i love having the right tool for every job. and as much as my spydies are the right tool for almost every cutting task...i still don't use them to spread peanut butter, drive screws or cut cigars :-) i would love a spyderco cigar cutter though. i'd love to see their take on it. a knife blade is too thick to cut cigars properly in a gillotine.
