Favorite Spyderco for Cutting Cardboard?
What is your favorite SPYDERCO model and steel for cutting up cardboard boxes? Something that slices through even thick cardboard like a dream, stays sharp through a bunch of cuts, and touches up to working sharp easily? Does such a knife exist? And don't tell me to get a box cutter!

A Maxamet Mule seems to work better than average. :)

From what I have seen the S110V Military worked the best in my testing.
Also the Farid K2.

Cool, yeah, I kind of expected that PM2 and Military in S110V and Maxamet. Assuming these stay pretty sharp for awhile from what I have read, but what is the best technique to get them back to working sharp quickly? I don't care about whittling hairs and slicing up receipt paper, I just want to get it back to where it is going to slice through thick cardboard like a hot knife through butter! :)

Re: Favorite Spyderco for Cutting Cardboard?
My two favorite Spyder folders for cutting up cardboard are both Spyderedged>>one is my companion blade for my main EDC. I'm speaking of my ATS-55 era Stainless handled RESCUE model which is Spyderco's answer to the Abram's Tank  My other highly desired folder to cut cardboard with is my big Hawkbill Spyderhawk model>> and I mainly use my H-1, yellow handled Salt Series Spyderhawk.
On occasion I have an older Spyderedged JD Smith model that I use but it's not often I carry that one. But the JD Smith in Spyderedge is like having your own laser beam.

It will take a very long time and a lot of cardboard before S110V (current HT) dulls enough not to slice phone book paper etc.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 12:32 amCool, yeah, I kind of expected that PM2 and Military in S110V and Maxamet. A quick touchup on the brown Sharpmaker stones will keep it going for almost forever.

As far as cutting performance, this ZDP189 Caly I gave a convex zero grind to. Thin is where it's at for cutting cardboard. The stock thickness of a Calypso is overkill in fact.
As far as handle ergonomics go, my Aqua Salt.
Probably the last knife people reading this thread expected, but I've used it more than once when I had to break down serious amounts of cardboard for recycling (Visiting the parents, etc.). That's why I laugh at the people who think PE H1 loses an edge if you look at it funny. I've cut up a garage full of cardboard with mine on numerous occasions, and every time it still scraped off arm hair when I was done.

Are you aware the HT has changed with the S110V line or are you just saying the current iteration is good to go?Ankerson wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 12:36 amIt will take a very long time and a lot of cardboard before S110V (current HT) dulls enough not to slice phone book paper etc.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 12:32 amCool, yeah, I kind of expected that PM2 and Military in S110V and Maxamet. Definitely my reground Military or Manix 2. The Manix 2 especially is a beast since the blade stock is a wee bit thinner. My Centofante 4 is really not bad either. You want the thinnest blade stock and grind you can get so it wedges less.

Re: Favorite Spyderco for Cutting Cardboard?
Just tore down ten or so large boxes with my S110V PM2. Easy-peasy (with a working-edge at best), at least until the adhesive gunk started to accumulate, then more of a chore...
But the slicy Police4 is my favorite box cutter.

WD-40 takes that stuff right off, just spray it on and let sit for a min or two.
Wipes right off.

I know, guys. :p
Just thought I'd mention the gunk as it does interfere but folks rarely talk about it.
I'm trying to build interest in a teflon apex.

Re: Favorite Spyderco for Cutting Cardboard?
My favorite would probably be my S110V Military.

Just used my bd1n ukpk for some big boxes and it seems like a very aggressive edge.
