That with a dlc blade and black hardware. Could be because my track car was burnt orange with black accents though haha.

So at the bottom of the page, it says S30V. Did they clad the Rex 45 in S30V, or is that just an editing error?

Wow.... That color. Tungsten, Molybdenum, Cobalt? Sounds like my mini collection is going to have to make room!

Editing error. Unclad.

The guide says Hap40. Unsure if that’s accurate but I assume so.

Hmm...on the fence about these. I've been into the Native and Manix lately more than the Military series, so may have to pass on these and hope for a Native G10 or Native LW. I may grab a Para 3 to try if it is released before the 52100 CF Para 3 (assuming that is actually happening).

That does seem unfortunate. A ukpk would have been nice too.

I'm hoping this signals an incoming set of golden sprint runs in Rex 45...Manix 2, Native and UKPK would be fantastic.

Plus a trailerload of cobalt.
Is there any real world feedback on what difference the cobalt makes?

It might have some tertiary benefit/effect, but it’s there for hot hardness which is useless in a handheld cutting tool.

It can do alot depending on how Spyderco decided to HT it.

Cobalt can increase the tempering resistance

Which means the steel can "squeeze out" more tungsten carbides when tempering at high temperatures without the martensite "shrinking"

This keeps the steel hard at higher tempering and also keeps the carbides from getting too large.

That's why steel like Maxamet and hap40 have very high HRC when tempered.

This can mean Crispy, crispy edges.

Larrin Thomas covers this in great detail on his site

Support him if you can, it's a unique site operated by a metallugist and the articles are well researched, sourced and are focused on how metallurgy relates to knives rather then screws, bolts, springs and structures.

I've been loving the site.
