Acid washed blades?
Acid washed blades?
Hey guys. May angle for a PM2 for Father’s Day. Saw an acid washed S30v version on knives plus website. I know it probably voids warranty but I do like it. Question is does acid wash increase chance of corrosion later or hurt slicing ability due to tougher surface? Heard acid wash could produce small pits (like bead blast) which could trap moisture. Also read it is like a patina which helps corrosion resistance. Which is the case?

To be honest i don't have any scientific evidence, it's just a no-no for me to apply a destructive finish (beside the fact i think it looks like crapola)

This is technically true, but it don’t think you’d see any practical difference in real world use.

It does not seem to affect corrosion resistance in my experience using VG10, but the lubricity of the surface is a noticeable downside in my opinion. Still I like the look if it is stonewashed after the acid bath.
