Yellow Pacific Salt
Yellow Pacific Salt
Can someone tell me a little more about the steel on this knife. I think I need one and it looks like a great durable knife for field use. My main concerns are edge holding quality, ease of sharpening, etc. as the steel compares to some of my favorites like VG 10, 154 cm (benchmade), AUS 34. By the way I use the 204 on all my knives. What a great system! I never use my old stones anymore. I just got the diamond rods and they are awesome for the tough jobs. Sorry I didn't get them sooner. Everything in my house is so sharp now I am going through old tool boxes looking for things to sharpen.

yellah PS!
Its H-1 and I have nothing but good things to say about the Yellah Pacific Salt! Handle colour is right.. High-Viz! :D Cuts like a demon! Love the tip design and the ambidextrous clip which is a blessing for lefties and righties.. Speaking about performance, the Pacific Salt lives up to its name by surviving saltwater immersion and exposure. Left it on the boat deck with plenty of saltwater spray, no stains, hardly any rust spots, had it rinsed in freshwater and a warm bath, coated with it with metal conditioner and this baby is on the go! Try it! You might like it! :D

Right on Sam - my Pacific Salt has seen more service in the kitchen then elsewhere and Carol loves it. If I dont leave it on the kitchen table Carol wants to know where it is - I bought her a Jester but she won't leave my "saltie" alone. It's amazing how that H1 keeps an edge when you take into account the minimum of carbon in it - I find it takes a really aggresive edge.

Feedback from kayakers who've gotten Salt and Pacific Salt "package deals" from me has been very, very good. While I haven't heard of any "rescue" situations as of yet. everyone likes the cutting power (serrated versions) and the no maintenance factor. Boaters will typically mount them on their PFD's and then forget about them until (or if) needed. This can lead to unpleasant surprises with some steels other than the H1. I'll be putting some of these into the hands of the Swifwater Rescue trainers from Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads later this Spring. They are my hard use proving ground for whitewater gear.

Properties of H-1??
Being that the steel ( H-1 ) is precipitation hardened I have wondered if the H-1 would be suitable for very hard use cutting chores like I would use my Military with S30V. I know S30V is harder than H-1 but I was wondering if anyone here has used one hard and what were the results. I do know of it's anti-corrosive properties being unequaled but I am just wondering if it will pass the abuse test? :) :spyder: :)

Yellow H1 Snap-it Salt?
Have any of your customers asked for a Snap-it type attachment? I love my snap it for around the water but would love an H1 yellow Snap-it even more!Mike Sastre wrote:Feedback from kayakers who've gotten Salt and Pacific Salt "package deals" from me has been very, very good. Snap-it type attachments are not used as much as sheaths on the river. A sheath allows you to just grap and pull - snap-its must be undone, an extra procedire in a rescue situation, also involving fine motor skills.
