Thoughts on Perrin PPT Sprint?

#1

Post by timlara »

Apologies if I missed it, but I didn't see a thread about the PPT sprint dropping and I just noticed that dealers have them now!

Anybody planning to pick one up? Any time prices crack the $200 mark, it's kind of a tough sell for me (and I'm currently way over budget), but for the materials and machining on the PPT, I actually think the price is not too bad. I was thinking at least $250 street price, but it looks like MAP is $227.

Looking forward to some "in the wild" pics if anybody gets one. This model has always kind of caught my eye, but I've never had a chance to handle one.

Love this knife. I had the all black one and kinda liked it, and was kinda looking for the original one. I'm blown away by the new Sprint model. Have one that I carried with me today.

the two i ordered for a friend and me arrived yesterday.
it’s my first ppt since i never pulled the trigger on the standard one and the black sprint wasn’t up my alley.

i think it’s a beautiful well balanced knife rather on the heavy side, maybe i’ll make a custom backspaced from carbon fiber in the future.

i really like the contoured CF and the ergonomic handle.
if s90v is anything close edge retention wise to s110v i’ll love it.
the clip is a nice deep carry style clip which i really like - there’s no lefthanded carry option though!
also it wobbles a bit almost like the wirestyle clips.

unfortunately the action of the two knives aren’t the same:
the one i took for mine is very stiff and gritty - the other one is super smooth and perfect.
on mine i loosened the pivot a bit and oiled the dezent and washers to make it a little easier to open and close but still it’s far from perfect.

all in all when/if the action is broken in, it‘s an awesome knife even on the bit pricier side which will get a lot of pocket time.

I was thinking about this thing after I got mine.

Has there ever been a knife (before the PPT sprint and the Bradley) from Taichung, Taiwan with a super steel above S30V for wear resistance?

They have been making the Mules for while now starting with MT18 in S110V. They also made
The Maxamet Mule. They have also made a few knives in S90V. I believe the Nirvana and Tighe Stick were both S90V.

I don’t think any of them came before the Bradley Folder.

Southfork and Sprig, both in s90v.
