Chaparral Handle Materials

#1

Post by RamZar »

Chaparral are very nice, small and slicing EDC folders paying homage to various handle materials. I have all of them except for the Blue Stepped Titanium one.

The handle materials so far have been:
  • CF/G-10 Laminate
  • Titanium (two different finishes)
  • Raffir Noble (acrylic with brass and copper wire mesh)
  • FRN
What else is in the pipeline?

I know Sal was talking about a machined stainless steel one.

Perhaps some of these:
  • Aluminum
  • Bone
  • Brass
  • Carbon Fiber (solid CF)
  • Copper
  • G-10
  • Micarta
  • Stainless Steel
  • Wood

If they did a handle in all-CF, I'd buy a third Chappy pretty quickly. I'd even more want it if it were a premium version with CTS-204P (keeping in the Carpenter family, and in no way a knock on CTS-XHP).

Solid CF would probably sell real well specially if it had some texturing/milling like the latest PPT Sprint or Native5 Fluted CF.

I'd take solid CF.

I'd like to see polished Micarta, too.

And something like the Pakkawood would be really nice as well.

Oh, and countoured CF, like the native.

Aside from seeing them as a "blank canvas" for engraving, I'm not really a fan of metal handles and, since the Chaparral's handles are marred by highly visible screws and clip channels, I don't consider them great candidates for that. Aside from higher cost, I'm not sure what "solid" CF would bring to the table that the laminate used on the first Chaparral lacked. Personally, I'd consider G-10, micarta, or pakkawood/dymondwood, either smooth and polished or with a corrugated "Anso style" texture, to be the most appealing of the materials mentioned.

Anso style G-10 would be pretty cool too.

smooth contoured G10 or pakkawood/dymondwood/hard wood possibly will be interesting for me.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

A linerless, smooth and contoured G-10 like the KC Exclusive Native5 would be nice.

Pakkawood and Micarta instantly.

Also just other metals like brass and copper.

Diamondwood, linerless G10/CF, and micarta all sound good, but what I'd really like to see is Fluted CF or Fluted Ti. Here's hoping the fluting procedure is not a Golden exclusive at this time. A fluted and anodized Ti Chappy like that Military model would be sweet.

Basically this. Less interested in stainless, but brass and copper could allow for some interesting patina options.

Micarta and Pakkawood would be likely buys for me. Maybe G10, if as noted a few comments above it had a corrugated pattern a la the PPT.

PINECONE!

There are many colors and varieties. You can have it with the normal pinecone or with just the inside. It is all really interesting to look at.

Definitely, the Chaparral is ready for some type of wood variation.
