sal, based on your experience in manufacturing knives in the USA, and your know-how about steel types and everything associated with it, how difficult or how easy would it be for you folks at Spyderco to produce an American/Golden, Colorado-made version of the Caspian Salt, if you ever were going to do an American made Caspian Salt Sprint run, using a rust proof steel like Lc200N or some other nitrogen based steel, that you did not have to have made in Japan? Hypothetically here, could that be done and if you were to estimate a price range on it, what would you say it would be?
I don't think there would be any advantage to doing that. Cost would be about the same.

From Madison to San José for me. I have been at Adobe since July of 1991.

As someone else already stated in slightly different terms, the greatest cancer in California is the entity that about half of the people here refer to as our government.

Hi Blendergasket,

Welcome to our forum.

Not complying means we can receive a healthy fine.

A few year ago, some lawyers in Texas figured out that if someone had an expired patent on a box, they can sue you for a large sum and the government gets half of the take. We ended up getting ripped for many thousands of dollars and had to change all of the patent info on all of our boxes. And we weren't the only ones. Some really big companies got ripped for big bucks. Some lawyers re just crooks.

Thanks Sal!

It is unfortunate that some people use the letter of the law against the spirit of the law for their own gain.

I always thought the warnings were funny..."...known to the state of California to cause cancer". As in, "we are so progressive that we know more about lead than you do". Lol.

We also have to add a line in our letters with the knives that states that our knives may have nickle in the steel and that nickle can cause cancer. A California law that is mandatory by this summer.

sal

OK, that explains why my Buck 110 that I got last month arrived with this?

WARNING: The state of California contains government officials known to the rest of the United States to create asinine laws and regulations.

Intent was good, holding business accountable for what they release into our waters, and forcing them to disclose the chemicals they store on premises. Most are not able to regulate themselves and don’t have our best interests in their business model

I sure like clean drinking water. I have a well on my property with aquifer underneath.

The labeling and lawsuits are too much. Too bad it turned into what is is today...

If you ever go to Disneyland, look for the state mandated "cancer warning" signs at the gates. They're hilarious and sad at the same time.

Some of our steels contain nickle. Nickle is one of the elements listed. I'm guessing that eating one of our blades could be hazardous to health. We will, however, comply with the demand.

Other than in this particular sentence, it's incredible unfortunate that "Common Sense" and "California" cannot be meaningfully used in the same sentence.

That is sometimes true when law are used for personal gain, but mostly California laws don’t make sense to people who don’t live here. It’s the new Wild West here. Many of these laws are just barely trying to contain the monster and protect the people that have been here longest from the waves to people flooding here for one reason or another.

California..visited Cali last year. Thanks to Calis gas taxes the gas prices were crazy and when I went in to get a small bag of chips and soda they tried to charge a $3 fee just for using a credit card. The fee was more than the soda and chips. I've never seen that in any other state. Walked out the door and didn't buy anything. I think that was somewhere around Bakersfied.

Did visit Sequoia National Forest. That was nice.

If you report that store to Visa or Mastercard, they will remove that business's ability to use that form of payment. It is strictly against the terms of agreement.

Maybe if we have sanctions on California like we have had on some hostile nations, it would bring them back to sanity.

Well it goes without saying that the business world is full of "sharks" and lawyers are just one species of them  . This utterly corrupt legal system in the USA has probably killed a lot of good, reputable American companies over the years unfortunately.

I still equate the "Made In The USA" label as a symbol of quality in most instances. I have several USA made Spyders and I even EDC one ( M390 Military) and I regard them as the top of the ladder sector of Spyderco's main line up.

Which is why I still want to see a GOLDEN, CO USA made Hawkbill as well as many other GOLDEN made models. But with all things considered I will admit that Japan, Taiwan and Germany all put out some good quality items as well. But I always consider USA stuff first.
