My Spydie for Christmas

#1

Post by Rob »

A few days ago I received an envelope from the US. The customs tag said that it contained a "hand tool". Did I order something that I forgot? Were there any open trades going on? Not that I could remember...

After I opened the envelope I found this:

Image

A very generous forumite sent me the knife as a Christmas present with a little note attached to it, saying that he knew that my beater could use some rest and that I may enjoy the new user :)

I think I am not lying when I say that this is the present I've been most proud of for the past few years. Receiving presents from your family and friends is nice but receiving a present from someone who barely knows you and who has never met you in person - just as a nice gesture - is really something special. When I realized what I just got, I almost felt like back in the days when I was a little boy and got my first pocket knife. :D

Thank you very much, my friend. You made someone across the big pond really happy. I'll take good care of the knife, for sure!

Cheers, Rob

P.S. I've just seen that the new year is a bit over 30 minutes old, so... HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

Rob,
Very nice. There is a Santa Claus ;) I enjoy the picture too, now I can't wait for the Burgandy ZDP Caly Jr. to come out. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have a Very good new year.

Ted & Chris, I knew that my old mainboard would come in handy sometime. But don't ask how many shots I had to take to get this picture :( I think I'll need a new camera (2 MP's are just not enough) plus a lightbox or tent.

Daywalker, it is absolutely true that we can consider us as blessed to know such fine persons. The funny thing is, that sometimes people on the other side of the earth are nicer to you than the folks you have to deal with every day

Very interesting, that the Calypso's gathered together almost on their own. I used the black FRN model for a long time as EDC and really loved it. I found the SS model in a knifeshop just by chance and couldn't resist to buy it. The Micarta one was offered to me in a trade and now the grey one also found it's way to me :D

If there would be an election for the best design ever produced by Spyderco, I'd absolutely vote for the Calypso Jr. I also can't wait for the ZDP-version to hit the stores. I am definitely in for one (or mybe two :D )

Cheers, Rob

Congrats,
Just picked up two of these for myself :) . Just right for most of what I need. I think I will have to pick up a Stretch for EDC and modify the Kraton somehow so it's not so grabby. I want a longer blade if for no other reason, just to cut an apple in half!
Sure do meet nice knife folks here. What do they say about knuts and the tree? :D

I know what you mean. :) :p Even with my new 8mp camera, I took about 50 shots of the CF Walkers to get the right ones.
