If memory serves, this is the first time that I have seen “MADE IN USA” marked on the product sticker of a Spyderco box → https://www.instagram.com/p/BgHbJavnVM9/

Looks like "country of origin" markings are now required on all boxes...

We also have to add a line in our letters with the knives that states that our knives may have nickle in the steel and that nickle can cause cancer. A California law that is mandatory by this summer.

That's amazing. Maybe that law could be followed up by a law requiring that anyone who passes a nickel to another person warn them about its nickel content.

sal, based on your experience in manufacturing knives in the USA, and your know-how about steel types and everything associated with it, how difficult or how easy would it be for you folks at Spyderco to produce an American/Golden, Colorado-made version of the Caspian Salt, if you ever were going to do an American made Caspian Salt Sprint run, using a rust proof steel like Lc200N or some other nitrogen based steel, that you did not have to have made in Japan? Hypothetically here, could that be done and if you were to estimate a price range on it, what would you say it would be?

Wow sal that is really major of them to make that a requirement. I mean, I understand that people can be allergic to certain materials.

I looked up Lc200N and H1 stainless and here is what I found regarding Nickel content in the alloy mix:

Lc200N has 0.50 nickel according to this chart:

http://www.zknives.com/knives/steels/lc200n.shtml

And H1 has 6.00-8.00 according to this chart:

http://www.zknives.com/knives/steels/st ... .php?nm=h1

But think of all the stainless steel flatware and table knives as well as cooking utensils that have nickel in them.

Everything here in California gives us cancer. I'm surprised we all haven't died yet, as literally everything seems to be trying to kill us.

It's very dangerous out here, and we have to be protected from all of that danger. I don't know how we survive either.

There is nothing more dangerous in CA than California's government. CT is about the same.

Hi Blendergasket,

Welcome to our forum.

Not complying means we can receive a healthy fine.

A few year ago, some lawyers in Texas figured out that if someone had an expired patent on a box, they can sue you for a large sum and the government gets half of the take. We ended up getting ripped for many thousands of dollars and had to change all of the patent info on all of our boxes. And we weren't the only ones. Some really big companies got ripped for big bucks. Some lawyers re just crooks.
