The Phillips reminds me a bit of the Tim Wenger hunter from years ago.

Oh, dear. Now I have to think about the Alistair Phillips. What appealing lines. If the thickness was 2mm, not 3mm, it would be a no brainer for me. That thinness and the edge curvature would be the sliciest!

Spyderco 2018 Production Sample - Reinhold Rhino

#87

Post by Mr Blonde »

Another customer we’ve seen before is the Reinhold Rhino. I have a weakness for bowie-type designs, and I certainly dig this cool little knife. The cutout in the handle for the opening hole is still ‘deceiving’ for my hand; I keep reaching for a linerlock to close this compression lock folder. I’m sure an evening watching TV opening and closing the Rhino will solve that. The ergos are really good, it fits my hand very well. As a spyderknut, I’m not complaining about the design upgrade to CTS-XHP and the G-10/Carbon Fiber laminate. And….the clip is reversible for lefties! Definitely worth the wait!

What i appreciated about Alistair and his knife was that he, in true Spyderco spirit could explain every aspect of the knife and the purpose behind it. There is nothing, it seems that hasn't been carefully considered about it.

I remember there was a Blade Show video in which the creator was talking with Sal. Sal pulls out a knife in his pocket and says something along the lines of, "Oops, that's a prototype. I shouldn't have done that." The Alistair Philips knife must have been it.

does anyone remember a slipit prototype posted by the designer on the forum I want to say in 2016 that had green g10? It was meant to be a food prep knife I think. I for the life of me can't remember the designer's name or the name of his prototype but it reminds me of the Alistair Phillips posted above somewhat.
The Alistair Phillips is gorgeous and so is the Rhino! really liking these new designs

You are probably remembering Cubane's food prep slipjoint. This is the same person and knife.

Phillips. Lovely. If the blade was 0.04” shorter it would be Colorado legal. Bummer.

Spyderco 2018 Production Sample - Peter Rassenti Paysan

Post by Mr Blonde »

I’m about to commit heresy when I say I never really liked the Nirvana. Sure, I appreciated the cool design and production quality etc… But I just don’t like bead blasted or coated blades for my personal EDC knife. Enter the Paesan, love it! Straight to the top my wishlist. It’s in my favorite size category for pure user knives; folders with around 3,5 to 4 inch blades like the Stretch, ATR and Para 2. I’ve probably said it before and I’ll likely say it again in future Amsterdam Meet posts but this is a must-have, period.

The blade shape of the Paysan is irresistible!

Seems like that pivot screw is an upcoming popular one for Spyderco! Already 3 examples of knives using it from this meet! (Sabotage, Alistair Phillips, Paysan) Not complaining though, I like the look of it. :spyder:
