Black Clips
Nothing carries more discreetly than a black wire clip on black jeans.
Easy money.
Re: Black Clips
On the flip side, nothing wears faster than a black clip. I wish there was some way to make a black clip that stayed black. Powder coat? Beats me. I don't mind a worn black clip but I'd just as soon it be shiny.

Truth!! How about a DLC clip?zhyla wrote:On the flip side, nothing wears faster than a black clip. I wish there was some way to make a black clip that stayed black. Powder coat? Beats me. I don't mind a worn black clip but I'd just as soon it be shiny.
I collect them all, and use them all! I use the excuse, "I'm trying to find the perfect one", but in reality, they are all perfect in their own way!

Agreed on the wear. This is not my first batch of black wire clips.zhyla wrote:On the flip side, nothing wears faster than a black clip. I wish there was some way to make a black clip that stayed black. Powder coat? Beats me. I don't mind a worn black clip but I'd just as soon it be shiny.
I would love a matte black powder coat or DLC.

I called Spyderco and they sold them to me.Jazz wrote:Nice. Where'd you get them?
Re: Black Clips
I like the dark wire clips. I have them on a few of my knives and I like how discreet they are with dark jeans. Sometimes I opt for the lighter colored clip if I'm wearing light colored cargo shorts. So I keep a couple different clips in my desk for quick clip swaps.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: Black Clips
Black clips are the best. I can't stand a shiny clip on anything. I've had to replace a few of my spydie clips as well due to getting polished ones on certain models.
As for black clips that don't wear - that other company with a B does a great "parkerized" black clip that doesn't show wear much. Not sure what parkerized means or how they do it though! Perhaps spyderco can duplicate that type of finish on their clips in the future?

Re: Black Clips
You can burn them to darken it, probably like parkerized.
CS Tuff Lite with Stretch. Both has the clip & clip screws darkened by stove burning.
IMO, it lasts better than painted. Just burn them till glowing, toss into water

On a Lark, I ordered black clips for the whole family.

Re: Black Clips
Don't like shiny clips at all. Prefer clips to blend (to some degree) with the color of my pants which are typically black, khaki or light stonewash (jeans). Knives with black clips go with black pants; knives with lighter color satin or bead blasted clips go with stonewash jeans or khakis. I even have duplicates of my top four EDCs, each pair with a different color clip (among other variations). E.g. G10 Caly 3.5 VG10 with dark clip and CF Caly 3.5 ZDP189 with light clip. Yeah I know I'm fussy but that's the way I roll.

I like that look, does it effect the springiness of the clip? Ever try it on a wire clip?anagarika wrote:You can burn them to darken it, probably like parkerized.

I had the exact same question! :) I introduce one of my lectures on radiation effects with his “dose makes the poison” reference and a cool picture of him from Wikipedia.Canazes9 wrote:Nice.

Not that I know of, so far so good. Never tried on wire clip, but split clip like on Sanrenmu 763 seems to be ok too.Paracelsus wrote:I like that look, does it effect the springiness of the clip? Ever try it on a wire clip?anagarika wrote:You can burn them to darken it, probably like parkerized.

Re: Black Clips
I've blackened hardware (screws) by heating and dunking them into oil. Never thought to try with water -- that would have been less messy, and a lot less smoky, ha ha. I agree that a blackened clip is most discrete against dark-colored pants, though non-reflectively finished metal (brushed, stonewashed, etc.) is okay, too. Can't stand shiny clips.

Re: Black Clips
Just tried the stove blackening on my clips, and they turned out beautifully. Slowly cooled by wiping on a wet washcloth. Thanks for the tip!!
