Yeah, that Forest Green Native at KC is pretty tempting. I promised the Missus I would not buy any knives right away. But, I am keeping my eye on it. I NEED to buy a new motorcycle and that has to take precedence.

I've stayed away from the G10 Natives up to now because of the added weight.

The G10 on these is smooth if you are not aware. I actually am not a fan due to this. I prefer a nice "peel ply" style texture on the G10 scales. That said, if you want a nice, smooth, lightweight native, then this is your knife!Doc Dan wrote:Yeah, that Forest Green Native at KC is pretty tempting. Something else can take priority over great looking and ergonomic dark green smooth G10 Native5????????
It is only$140, will not make any difference to compare with price of bike.

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
Roman, you're tempting me. Dark green is my favorite color g10 too. I have two 2013 Forum Natives. Do I really need this exclusive?
I guess the real dilemma is that after just shelling out an outrageous amount of money on vet bills my knife funds are lacking for a while and I am really wanting the Fluted CF Native. Is the fluted CF Native that much nicer than this KC exclusive?
Honestly, there are just two many Natives, especially in S90V. I am having a similar dilemma with the orange CS exclusive. I have the 2015 Forum Native and that makes it hard to justify the CS exclusive that is the same steel but a different color. If I want a high visibility Native for woods use I might as well get the Native Salt. It gives me high visibility and a new steel.

There is no easy solution in your case, especially considering vet bill. We just paid $300+ for shots  I cannot imagine, how much is a bill for something serious. How is your dog? I hope that he/she is well or at least better now.
Now back to Native5 topic. Currently Fluted CF is my favorite variant with Forum knife to be fairly close second. I carry and use both almost every day.
I was on the fence to buy KC exclusive for a while. I do not think that at this time any knife will be able to replace my Fluted CF, if I would loose it. Still I bought KC exclusive just out of curiosity. I thought that, if I do not like it, it is easy to return or sell it in little while without loosing money. So I got the knife. It is really look good. I am not returning or selling. May be I will need it, who knows.
Now Cf Fluted vs KC Dark green. For me personally CF Fluted looks better due to some contouring and feels better in my hand.
KC dark green is advertised as 3D machined, but scales are flat, except that some material is removed to assess Spyderhole. But it is $90+ less expensive now. There is one more thing. Dark green is limited and will be sold out, CF is production and hopefully will stay. If you can buy KC exclusive now and CF Fluted later. This is what I would do, but if you have to choose only one, I would bite a bullet and get Fluted CF. The knife is amazing.

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
Personally, the Fluted CF Native5 in either S90V or Damascus (40th Anniversary) are tops mostly due to the solid CF which has good milling and is linerless. They feel great in the hand. However, these are $359.97 and $233.97 respectively. Incidentally, the MAP change did not affect the Anniversary Native5 price.
The KC Exclusive S90V/Forest Green G-10 (smooth) is currently the best value of all Native5 with G-10 or CF. At $139.95 it's actually less than the S35VN/Black G-10 (textured) at $146.22! I carry my KC Exclusive S90V/Forest Green G-10 quite a bit now because it's very light (not quite as light as the CF Fluted), the smooth G-10 is easy on the pockets and if I lose it I won't feel as bad as if I lost one of the Fluted CF ones.
Also, like others have mentioned there have been too many S90V Native5 the past couple of years:

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
I picked up the linerless dark green S90V at knifecenter. My first Native.
And it has me wondering. This is my least smooth spyderco. Well it is smooth, but there is a lot of friction opening it. I have put some triflow on the pivot, and full disassembled the knife and checked for burrs and such. And I have tried loosening and fiddling with various screws, starting with the pivot.
What I am wondering is if there is just inherently more friction in a linerless knife with steel moving against G10 surfaces? If so, I am not as much a fan of a linerless knife as I could be. I don't have a native with liners to compare against. On the other hand it is a fine knife. I compare it to my spyderco Cat and the Cat is amazingly "snappy" and quick and nice. Do other people notice a difference with linerless natives versus those with liners?

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
I am hoping that this change isn't a new permanent CQI change to all G10 Natives. I just got my S110V Blurple G10 Native today and I prefer it so much more than the linerless KC Green G10 model. I am not a fan of the smooth G10 number one, and I enjoy the extra heft of the liners. It feels much nice and more solid. I really hope that if we see some future sprints and exclusives (DLT exclusive Red G10 M390, and BHQ exclusive Jade G10 M4) that they are in the same style as the S110V Blurple with the full liners and rough G10.

Aren't there PB washers between the blade and scales?Tucson Tom wrote:What I am wondering is if there is just inherently more friction in a linerless knife with steel moving against G10 surfaces?

There are indeed washers. Brassy looking thin things (as you might expect).Sharp Guy wrote:Aren't there PB washers between the blade and scales?Tucson Tom wrote:What I am wondering is if there is just inherently more friction in a linerless knife with steel moving against G10 surfaces?
I don't know what PB is (Pb is the symbol for lead, but I know that isn't what you mean).
I haven't figured out where the friction is happening. In a back lock knife a variety of things have to move.
I need to do some experiments -- but so far I don't like it and if the root cause is the linerless thing,
I am down on that.
Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
PB means phosphor bronze, I think. Spelling could be way off. :P

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
I have the FRN and the linerless G10 versions of Native 5. Both are free dropping onto my index finger when the lock bar is depressed fully. Both are very smooth opening and closing. The FRN feels softer; like it has a lighter tension bar - not certain, haven't taken them apart. I know the tension bar is lighter on my FRN Delica vs the Pakkawood Delica.Tucson Tom wrote:...What I am wondering is if there is just inherently more friction in a linerless knife with steel moving against G10 surfaces? ...
What other backlock/lockback knives are you comparing the Native 5 to? Wonder if you are experiencing friction from the lock mechanism, or from the blade action.
Peter
Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
Try a drop of oil on the blade tang where the lock bar rides.Tucson Tom wrote:I haven't figured out where the friction is happening. In a back lock knife a variety of things have to move.

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
It could be entirely normal, this is my first back lock knife. If a bunch of people with 5 or so Natives including a linerless model aren't confirming a difference then it is likely that what I am experiencing is entirely normal for a back lock. If I lock the knife open then hold it horizontally and depress the lock bar, the blade drops 70 degrees or so under its own weight. A drop of oil where Sharp guy recommends makes a significant difference. I think I am just not used to back lock knives. All my other knives are other sorts (like PM2, Manix, and various liner and frame locks).
There is only one answer -- I'll have to pick up a native with a liner. At this point I am dealing with a sample of one.
On the other hand, I have been carrying this knife regularly since the day I got it. And I don't buy a knife to be a fidget spinner.

Re: C41GP5 native 5 g10 without liners?
While back locks can be very smooth it's a different kind of smooth than your PM2, etc. Try this...open the blade, hold it at the spydie hole with your left hand, and then push the lock bar all the way in with your right. While holding the lock bar down, move the blade up and down. It should now move much easier than it did under all that spring pressure. It may not feel like a PM2 with it's lock bar depressed but it should be much better. You'll feel the kick push against the lock bar at about 90°. That's normal.Tucson Tom wrote:I think I am just not used to back lock knives. All my other knives are other sorts (like PM2, Manix, and various liner and frame locks).
