289.95 Euro equals 346.44 US Dollar.

Must be a mistake right? I emailed, asked if it was a preliminary price and seeing as it just was added. Said how 150 dollars is the going price here and even with FedEx, import taxes, they're still 1/3rd more expensive!

Nope. No mistake, no error: 'this is the set price, - insert nonsense rambling about this and that justifying the pricing-.

Benchmade 940-1? Be ready to cough up 360 euros and do the conversion yourself for giggles. You guys gave it so great :( fix international pricing :(
you say?
Here's the closest knife store to where I live (Barcelona)

Image

SS DF2 = 129.95 EUR = $155
SS Delica = 185.95 EUR = $220
230 EUR PM2 (that's $275), 210 EUR Manix 2 ($250)...

I get you :(

Before Spyderco first introduced MAP pricing some dealers were offering discounts of 44% to 46% off MSRP. Till now, MAP has limited them to offering 40% off MSRP. As of Jan 1 that's changing, and dealers will only be allowed to offer a maximum discount of 35% off MSRP.
Cool - thanks.

Wow! That’s crazy.

Luckily in Canada the prices are very close to the US for Spyderco and other big US brands. The Sliverax S30V is $190CAD plus tax which is just under $170US all in vs. $150 of you bought in the States.

I rarely pay more than 5-10% more for a Spyderco in Canada. If I can’t get one here for close to US web prices, I just buy from USA Made Blade or BladeHQ. Most of the time, Canada Post doesn’t even bother collecting the tax or duty.

Except maybe a Caribbean. And a LC200N Pacific Salt. And a LC200N PM2 if they make it. And a Lc200n Military if they make that.

And maybe a S110V Para3 for myself (I’ve gifted 3). Maybe an interesting sprint run or a new model (a S110V Sliverax would ve interesting).

Other than that (or other interesting Spyderco knives) I won’t buy any more Spyderco knives....

I already switched to Buck S30V. Works well enough. I don't normally enjoy vanadium steels but I simply can't go back to the garbage-tier steels after being spoiled by ZDP-189, S90V, and XHP for years.

I understand that Spyderco knives are clearly the most refined in the industry, but at a certain point, well, a point is reached.

It has been mentioned that there will be an increase in MSRP on top of the lowering of MAP.
By whom?
The only reliable info I've seen in this, is Kristi saying that they were able to hold MSRP on all but a few models...

Maybe the best statement I've read in the last time ... :p

One needs gold, stocks or bitcoins for speculation profits to satisfy european dealer network.

hey guys, get the gas we already bought at this lower price now because when a certain day comes, that gas is going to go up in price. You, our loyal customer is going to get to pay us 5% more just because you like us! That gas you got today is the same gas you will buy next week - no worries, we already bought it at last week's lower price - we just want to pass on a price increase to ya. Thanks!
The only difference is I don't need any more knives. There will be losers in this situation and one of them won't be me.

To add on to your explanation and not meaning to be a downer, but they likely won't offer a steeper discount unless clearing out poorly selling models/yearly discounts. It very likely is going to increase the price for them to get the product on their shelves as well. The added profit they'll make as they sell through existing stock should help offset the growing pains induced by the price increases as buyers react(mostly negatively) in the first few months to year or so.

Spyderco has had a provision allowing dealers to offer deeper discounts on discontinued models and on knives the dealer is closing out ever since they introduced MAP pricing. Am sure some dealers, especially "internet only" dealers, will find creative ways around MAP, after all, MAP = Minimum ADVERTISED Price. However, not that many of them went than route before the change from 40% to 35%, probably because the idea of MAP is to put more money in their pockets. "Where to get a bargain" has always been a popular topic on this forum. So,If they had, am sure it would have been talked about here.

Not sure how it will increase the cost of getting product on their shelves if MSRP and wholesale prices remain constant, which will be the case for most models this year. As for making more on existing stock, that will only be the case on models where MSRP goes up, and that's always been the case.
Yes, I'm sure Spyderco will lose a few customers, but there are always more people swearing they'll leave a hobby or abandon a brand when a price change is announced than those who follow through on it.
