Somewhere on my PC I have a knife mock-up I'm sure you'd like. Back when the Yojimbo 1 was current and I carried a Caly 3, I did a mock-up of the two combined. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
I used that Manbug wharnie today at work in place of my Delica and wow. Fantastic for its size. If it was in ZDP or something (anything but H1), FFG, and without the hole hump (like the Delica wharnie), it couldn't be beat for its size. I'm quite serious. That Manbug handle is locked in the fingers. Great design. I cut a lot of cardboard today. Got a great feel for the small wharnie. I think we need one of these.
- best wishes, Jazz.
Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
Check out the Spin if you've never used one. Gives me a great grip even with huge hands. It's one of the knives that made me really appreciate wharncliffes on smaller knives, along with stockmans.Jazz wrote:I used that Manbug wharnie today at work in place of my Delica and wow. I support the idea of a wharncliffe ladybug or manbug.
Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
I had one, but it was only good in one grip and one alone. Also, liner/frame locks aren't for me. Cool knife if it was good for more than the one forced grip.Vivi wrote: Check out the Spin if you've never used one.

So basically Spyderco stole the q-ball design from me :D

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
I was going to say it looks like the Q-Ball, then I scrolled down further.

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
Eric designed the first Q-Ball about 2000/2002. It was to be made by a Chinese maker who, at the time was making the Caca Cara and Meadowlark. He wasn't able to do it, and then he went out of business, so the design was refined for another maker, who also wasn't able to make it. So a third maker was selected and the design was changed again. Now, years later, we're finally bringing the design to the market.

Looks like Eric beat me by 5 or 6 years. I'll let him take credit for this onesal wrote:Eric designed the first Q-Ball about 2000/2002. In all seriousness that's interesting the design was in the works for so long. Would have been neat seeing a ball lock Byrd. I was just browsing the Byrd section of Newgraham wondering what the next model in that line-up will be.

I like that a lot Vivi. And the Q-Ball too.Vivi wrote:Quality wasn't as good as I remembered  but here it is.ZrowsN1s wrote:That sounds like a cool knife.Vivi wrote:.....

The Q-Ball gets my vote for best new design (although apparently it's an old design :D ), I'm hoping there are sprints and exclusives in the future.sal wrote:Eric designed the first Q-Ball about 2000/2002. Cool, but definitely not for me. I ground the waves off mine. Coincidentally, I'm carrying the ground off waved Endura this week in back pocket.

I like the saber grind and the long spear point of that version, it probably looks cool sans wave.Jazz wrote:Cool, but definitely not for me. I ground the waves off mine. Coincidentally, I'm carrying the ground off waved Endura this week in back pocket.

That's what I dreamt about tonight!
I have owned the Cara Cara 2 for 3 years now and it's beaten all other "budget folders" out of my rotation as the absolute king of inexpensive folders, and best blade shape of all (Leaf/Spyderco)
and this week I got a Byrd Crossbill which greatly surpassed my expectations, and has my second favorite blade shape (Hawkbill)

so I dreamt about a folder with those great features in an affordable package with my 3rd favorite blade shape of all (Wharncliffe) and I just read your post.
That's my next purchase as soon as it gets out! Thanks, Sal :D
