There is no hurry. I think it will be around for a while. Responsibilities first.

No, nobody's said anything about the serrations. They appear to be the same size, or at least as big as the ones on my D'Allara, Pacific Salt, and Rescue 3. But some models, like the Aqua Salt, have smaller serrations, so when a new SE knife comes out I like to check the size. I prefer the big ones for cutting branches, etc. But I'm sure some people prefer the smaller ones for cutting other things.zhyla wrote:The serrations look like standard size to me. Am I missing something?DougC-3 wrote:By the way the large serrations on the Shaman SE look great! I think they'll be very handy on a heavy duty knife like this. I'm also looking forward to trying out the SE Caribbean.

The October 2017 issue of the Spyderco Byte newsletter features the Shaman.

The serrations are the big shallow ones like a Pac Salt

Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
DLC? Nice, very tempting
Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
The Native never spoke to me but the Shaman calls out like nothing else has in a long time. The heavily contoured scales make this look like a real user and the grip shape implies it'll handle holiday kitchen duty like a charm!
Can you guys help me buy one by posting some action photos?

From Spyderco Byte October 2017 a comparison picture of Shaman next to Native5.

It is a bit interesting how even the lockback kick was mimicked, even though no longer necessary. Good soft finger guard though I guess.
Going back to Caly.

Does the Shaman have an internal stop pin and blade cutout??SpeedHoles wrote:It is a bit interesting how even the lockback kick was mimicked, even though no longer necessary. Good soft finger guard though I guess.

Sorry, if you're asking me, I do not know.carrot wrote:Does the Shaman have an internal stop pin and blade cutout??SpeedHoles wrote:It is a bit interesting how even the lockback kick was mimicked, even though no longer necessary. Good soft finger guard though I guess.
I'm doubting it does, but just speculating...

Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
To answer my own question I watched a disassembly video of the Shaman and it looks more like the PM2/P3 inside than the Sage 5.
Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
Been edcing this beast since the 27th. It's very smooth after some maintenance.
My only gripe is that I cannot eliminate side play no matter how hard I tighten. I can shake the knife while open and feel/hear the blade moving. I'm guessing there's a fitment issue somewhere that I haven't found.

Check out Nick Shabazz' YouYube disassembly and pivot tuning of the Shaman.ZL1 wrote:My only gripe is that I cannot eliminate side play no matter how hard I tighten. I can shake the knife while open and feel/hear the blade moving. I'm guessing there's a fitment issue somewhere that I haven't found.

Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
That can't be normal for a brand new $150 Spyderco. Or really any new Spyderco. You may want to talk to customer service about that.ZL1 wrote:My only gripe is that I cannot eliminate side play no matter how hard I tighten. Hi ZL1,
There shouldn't be any side to side.

Just watched Nick's video with the Shaman. Unfortunately no luck eliminating the movement. Thanks for the recommendation though!wrdwrght wrote:Check out Nick Shabazz' YouYube disassembly and pivot tuning of the Shaman.

Re: Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread
When I bought mine I was able to pick from 5 different samples of the Shaman. 4 our of the 5 had blade play unfortunately. Not to the lever you’re describing though. If you can hear it moving there is definitely a problem.zhyla wrote:That can't be normal for a brand new $150 Spyderco. Or really any new Spyderco. Perhaps you should send it back to where you got it or to Spyderco.
