PM3 S110V blade play
PM3 S110V blade play
I need some advice. Just bought the s110v blurple version. Haven't taken apart yet but I feel a slight side to side blade play. Used my torque to tighten the pivot screw and initially no plade play but after an open or two it comes back. Any thoughts?
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
Is your blade play evident while unlocked or when locked open? I get a little side to side play when unlocked and free swinging. I tried to get rid of it, but it really isn't hurting anything since lockup is solid.
Also, mine's the Cruwear version, if it matters.

Thanks Attila, it happens when locked open only.
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
There is a member on here that completed a write up on how to ensure the free floating stop pin is fully seated in the liners. He did this on a S110V Military. If you can't adjust the pivot you may want to search for this video. I remember reading a recently revived post from a member explaining when adjusting the screws on a pm2, start with the picot screw and work your way back.
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
Cheers blueblur. I also saw a vid on YouTube that showed a PM2 where the clip screw holes near the pivot had burs on the holes from the drilling. Because of this the pivot bushing is unable to seat itself flush with the liners and results in blade play. I was surprised to hear that as I always thought Spyderco had such good quality control. Has anyone experienced this on the PM3?
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
I have blade play on my PM3, straight out of the box. I haven't yet tried to figure out how to fix it, or sent it back.
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
Let me know if you see any burs on the clip screw holes around the bushing. I'm going to check mine shortly. See if I can't sand them down. Strange quality coming from Spyderco, mine cost $200.

Best bet is to send it back or for warranty if it's not up to satisfaction. Having troubles and then watching you tube videos about problems others are having can cause a person to overthink. :)

If both bushings are in place, I don't see how it's physically possible to have side to side play on a Para 3. Mine had some sort of loctite, not red, on the pivot screws. Maybe that is what's keeping you from tightening out the play.
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
After reading your post again, you are tightening both screws correct?bosbevok wrote:I need some advice. Just bought the s110v blurple version. Re: PM3 S110V blade play
Thanks for all the great comment. I think I am tightening correctly, just don't want to strip any screws. Looks like I will need to take this guy apart. Don't really feel like they are mine till I have done that anyway.

You should probably try the warranty route..
The first time I saw a Spyderco was the early 90s at a knife shop in a mall. I can still see the SpydieHoles through that glass display cabinet. My parents wouldn't buy any of them for me... so now I buy them all. :spyder:
Re: PM3 S110V blade play
Ok so I took the PM3 apart. Slathered in locktight on the free spinning spacer screw, oh and the lanyard tube is a pain in the butt due to the flared end. But got it opened. Sanded down the clip screw holes around the pivot. Gave it a good clean and lube. Made sure all the tolerances on the knife were met during reassembly. Blue locktighted the screws on reassembly, and the blade play is gone. I did feel the slight burs on the drilled edges with my finger initially. After lightly sanding them with 200 grit sandpaper seeemed to do the trick.

Glad to hear you fixed it all.
