Broken Tip Repair Question
Broken Tip Repair Question
Hey everybody, new to the forum. Dropped my brand new all black Paramilitary 2 onto a tile floor, broke the tip, I'd guess about 2mm or so.
Anyway, sent it in to Spyderco in Golden and they should be getting it tomorrow. Just wondering if it'll come back as good as new? Also, is their turn around time pretty decent?

Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
Not sure about turn around. A small regrind should be almost good as new. Obviously there will be a cosmetic difference.

Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
I'd be happy with 2 weeks. Had to order a Delica 4 to keep me company while I wait
Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
Good choice with the Delica. Welcome to the forum btw :D

Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
What’s the cost for repair? $15?
The first time I saw a Spyderco was the early 90s at a knife shop in a mall. I can still see the SpydieHoles through that glass display cabinet. My parents wouldn't buy any of them for me... so now I buy them all. :spyder:

$20 + $5 return shippingConspicuousConsumption wrote:What’s the cost for repair? $15?
Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
I would assume they grind the spine down to meet the rest of the edge but I've never seen one that was factory repaired so I dunno. That's how I'd do it anyway.

Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
Update: Spyderco mailed it back to me 1 week from the day they received it. Knife looks as good as new, they even put a $20 bill in the box with a note saying it was an easy repair and they only needed $5 for shipping. Can't beat that! Awesome customer service.

Good for you! Speaks for the company - but we all know here that they are the best! :)

That's fantastic! You don't find many companies these days that won't take advantage of you, let alone have INTEGRITY. Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
I'm sure it only took them 5 minutes to repair. You should look into getting a Dremel for these minor jobs.

Re: Broken Tip Repair Question
It was a brand new PM 2 with a broken tip. I have a dremel but I wasn't going to practice my first tip repair on a $120 knife. It cost me $10 this way and I can't even tell the tip was ever broke. Thanks for the "tip" though ! Haha!Evil D wrote:I'm sure it only took them 5 minutes to repair. You should look into getting a Dremel for these minor jobs.
