just as got got a few Spydies back in the collection I have to go and put some up for sell on Knifeforums to fund a new computer.
I had to try and do a restoration on this one but it did not work right and now I got a computer that will barely work.

I don't know enough about them to fix them.I tried the recovery disks that came with it and know it is really screwed up.Color is off, email is srewed, and one of the recovery disks will not run.
I guess I will just get another one with windows XP and get away from this crappy ME.I like 98 on the old computer much better than the ME and from what I have seen of the XP,I like it.

Hi Jeff.
If you don't have colors, it's a driver problem. Try reinstalling the graphic card drivers.
For the email, always make backup copies (Address Book -> File -> Export -> Address Book (.wab)). This way you'll save your contacts.
Also note down the configuration of your email client (which I presume it's the Outlook Express): Tools -> Accounts -> the Mail tab -> Properties -> the "Servers" is the most important, but you could write down the other tabs as well.
If your mail gets damaged, you could try to restore the settings you noted and it should work. At least in the future, make backup copies. Those are vital.

this weekend(from fridays scan until it acted up last night), I picked up 2 trojans and 5 spyware progs... took me 2hrs to hunt down the 2 trojans and I still have 3 spyware in here.

Don't buy a new computer 'cause ME isn't working, that was the crappier Windows ever... get a copy of Windows XP and most of your problems will disappear.

You might want to run adaware a couple of times a month. This is a free program that removes adware and other malicious applications from your computer. You can get it by going to http://www.download.com and typing "adaware" in the search box. Choose the second choice (Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.05) and download and install. Updates are free as well, its a great program.

You might also want to install a firewall as well. This prevents people from accessing your computer from the internet. A good free one is zonealarm. This is also free and can be found at download.com

All good advise. I will now go get zonealarm and see if it picks up anything on my "ME" version? I liked "98" better. I could put "XP" on this computer as it came with that option. I hate to reinstall everything from the very beginning. It takes me a couple of months to get it all the way I like it to run. I have the Ad-aware but it and Spybot and Spy Sweeper seem to conflict. I also have the free version of "AVG" which I run a lot. It works great so far. I do want to get a firewall tho. Thanks.

It's taking a little while to download Zonealarm. Took awhile to find the free version. Computers are ok. I can't say I love mine tho. I could say it's a "love-hate" relationship. (;-)
