Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
This is about the E4-Ladybug sprints, aka Superblue and HAP40, and trying to drum up interest in another run
Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
My guess and wish is a K390 sprint with grayish-bluish handle. Seki has been working with K390 and it would make sense that they have some left over stock.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
The super blue sprints were bluish grey.
I like the idea of K390 but would like to see it in a mint green and chocolate brown zome.
I had some mint chocolate chip ice cream with chocolate syrup on it last night. :)

Please no, unless you enjoy pivot rust and losing all of your detent. But no, definitely no. The idea that you are getting more for you money by getting a solid slab is niggardly. All non-stainless folders should have cladded blades.

Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
Who said the new sprints might not be Stainless? The Superblue Caly and 3.5 along with the 52100 Mille all are highly non Stainless and non cladded. My grandfather had a carbon steel Stockman that was patina heavy and never lost its functionality in the 30 years I saw him with it before he passed.Of course you are entitled to your opinion thoughtripscheck'em wrote:twinboysdad wrote: My sincere hope is that we get a solid slab and no cladding.

Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
I would add my motivation for uncladded has zero to do with me being "cheap" as you suggested. I love patina and also like to maintain my blades. My Superblue Endura was a bit "flexible" to me and it was sold. My solid slab Caly is still here. I just want to be clear that I never said I wasn't getting my money's worth by have cladded blades but you somehow inferred that.tripscheck'em wrote:twinboysdad wrote: My sincere hope is that we get a solid slab and no cladding.

We have had a carbon steel and tool steel sprint. How about a sprint run in a highly stainless new steel? Or...since there is often chatter on the forum about interest in aeb-l, maybe there is a Japanese equivalent? I dunno, just trying to think of something different and interesting.

Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
I prefer the uncladded blades but I can get along with cladded if needed. I like the super blue without the stainless and to this day have no rust problems on the blade or in the pivot or lock area. The softer stainless sure scratches easier and I get the feeling the cladded Super Blue is softer than it was run uncladded. That can easily be my imagination but the lack of rust isn't. I have carbon steel pocket knives from as far back as the 1920's that work fine that had very little care in their lives. Much less care than I give my knives. The idea of pivot rusting away and losing a detent seems unlikely to me. Perhaps if the knife was lost overboard in the water for a long time. Of course then it wouldn't be my knife anymore and not my worry. I have a couple knives I found outside after who knows how long and they had surface corrosion that doesn't affect use or safety. My very first knife was one I found in a construction site that had not been used in years. I still have it almost 50 years later and it still works.

The Delica and Endura at Blade (which were just beautiful) are indeed pakka wood and HAP40. But, IIRC, Sal has mentioned a blue FRN Dragonfly as well, separately. Hopefully we'll see all of them. :DJohnnie1801 wrote:I think he means the Delica sprint in blue pakkawood and hap 40 that was shown at blade showSpider bite wrote:I haven't logged in here in 4 years but just seen this and it perked my ears.... On the contrary, Sal mentioned that there is a blue frn Dragonfly Sprint that is to be released at some point.Johnnie1801 wrote:I think he means the Delica sprint in blue pakkawood and hap 40 that was shown at blade showSpider bite wrote:I haven't logged in here in 4 years but just seen this and it perked my ears.... I hope that Cowry X is still in the running... with the translucent blue of the manix LW would be amazing!
Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
Not that it should stop anyone from wanting to try it, but I just realized Cowry-X is basically Daido's version of ZDP-189 (Hitachi). For some reason I never made the connection until now.

Blue with ZDP-189 would be fine by me. VG-10 is fine with me, also. Blue FRN is a must.

Re: Next Seki Sprint Run Steel and Color?
I have seen comparisons of the chemistry and I am no expert. But my limited experience seems to suggest to me that the devil's in the details. I have tried ZDP by Spyderco, Kershaw and Rockstead have found them to be different. Maybe it comes down to the heat treat, geometery or something... I have also tried Cowry X in a Shih Lin cutter, Shiro, and Hattori. I like it so much that I hope that my favourite knife company will give us steel addicts a chance to try their interpretation.Nate wrote:Not that it should stop anyone from wanting to try it, but I just realized Cowry-X is basically Daido's version of ZDP-189 (Hitachi). Given how Spyderco has always pushed the envelope on steels, like how they made previously unobtanium Maxamet (in a ZT0888MAX) available to mass market, I remain patiently hopeful...
