So I started this thread way back in 2013 asking for a new ATR and Sal seemed open to it after which he started talking about design choices with us. A little over 2 years later and we have our first look at the actual knife. It looks precisely like I had imagined in my head. It's nice to see that it comes with S30V to boot!

Now I'm wondering if it is going to be a production knife or sprint. Eric made it sound like it will be production but maybe I'm reading into it too much.

Thank you for making this knife for us Sal!

You can fast forward to 22:47 to see Eric introduce the ATR. However I recommend watching the whole video. I could listen to these guys talk for hours.

O my G-d. The dream will come true. I like new ATR more than original (sorry I never cared about plain Ti).

Thanks for the video, LC. That made my night. :) Looks like the Jester's big prodigal brother (the ATR) is finally coming home. :D Very cool!

I'm pretty partial to the original Ti version, but I'll give the new one a shot :D.

A big thanks to Spyderco for bringing back discontinued models based on enthusiast's request!

Man, gotta have that that knife! Thanks, Spyderco, for listening (again) to your customers !

Do we have an estimate on street price? And it looks to be a PM2 sized blade, but in a slightly larger handle. Sound about right?

Really happy that they kept the cobra hood and like the G10 look.

About big brother, I love ATR blade shape. I can only wish that Spyderco would make knives with 2.5" and 3" ATR shape blades. 2.5" long, 2mm thick ATR style, but no cobra hood blade, Kopa style scales and bolsters would make perfect gents knife.

I completely agree. Could you imagine what that would look like in linerless 3D-contoured maroon Micarta scales? :D

Amazing!

I guess if they were to choose one model to debut the American steel in a Japanese manufactured knife, I'm glad it was the ATR, a model with that history of both.

Looks like a serious knife, glad they kept it very true to the original.

Wasn't clear if it will be regular production or just limited/Sprint...? I guess maybe they won't know either until they see sales response.
Going back to Caly.

I also like how on the new model they found a good balance between the titanium version and the steel version in terms of how many holes to use. They got rid of the small ones while increasing the number of big ones.

Looks like the new G10 version just ditched the small holes but retained the larger 6-hole Seki pattern (including the oddly smaller sixth hole near the lanyard hole). I'm guessing they used that pattern vs the 4-hole Golden Ti pattern since the new one will be made in Japan (yet with the Golden steel, so it's a proper hybrid ;))

This image was grabbed from the "Godfathers of Spyderco" video above when Eric G. was showing it off. :)

Yep, still patiently waiting! Not sure how long I can keep the "patiently" part up though!

I don't recall seeing the ATR at the blade show, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't getting close to coming out. Let's hope soon!

That was probably cause I couldn't keep my hands off of it. It was there and man is it gorgeous. My most anticipated knife of the past couple years by far.
