Reinhold Rhino Update

#1

Post by TazKristi »

Hi, everyone:
First, we'd like to thank you for your continued interest and enthusiasm for the Reinhold Rhino. We know it has been a highly anticipated model - and not just here on the forum. As you all know, the first production run of the Rhino did not meet our quality standards. We could not, in good faith, release it knowing it was less than what you deserve. Likewise, we owe it to Michael to deliver a high-quality knife that meets his vision and can rightfully carry his name.

After careful consideration, we have decided to move production of the Reinhold Rhino to Taichung. We have also decided to upgrade the Rhino to ensure that we deliver the best possible knife and give you something that is not only functionally sound but something that will prove to be worth the wait.

Upgrades will include:
CTS-XHP steel
Peel-ply carbon fiber / G-10 laminate handle
Phosphor bronze washers

We know that this is a departure from the original Reinhold Rhino but we truly believe this will provide you with a worthy expression of Michael's knife in a truly high-performance configuration. We're confident that when held in-hand it will be a source of pride and provide the reliable high performance that you have come to expect from us.

With these upgrades, we'll also be assigning a new SKU. We'll share that as soon as it's assigned. I don't have new pricing information or an ETA at this point but we'll do our best to update you as we move forward.

Again, thank you for your continued support and interest!

Kristi

Well! Can't wait to see the new pics! I do hope it's not too much of a price increase, though. That was an incredible value, provided it showed up with Spyderco quality. I'll stay tuned!

Sounds great! Any chance the original SKU might show up at, say, a seconds sale...? ;)

If street price is under $100, this will be hard to resist.

I would be shocked if it arrives under $100 with those upgrades. I'm guessing MAP of $130.
My preorder will be cancelled and instead of two I'll end up with zero. Don't get me wrong, it will be a great knife and a nice improvement for Michael and his design. It's just not what I signed up for and now it (likely) competes with other purchases I'm more likely to make. I hope I'm way high on my price guess, but I doubt it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was that much or a little more.

Provided the price stays reasonable when accounting for the upgrades, this is a must have. Please give it a deep carry wire clip!

Congrats to Michael on the Rhino Plus!

I thought of that too but I suppose it depends what their process is. My impression is that the entire delivery was so unsatisfactory that they may have just sent them all back, if they can do that. Otherwise, grab me a handful of them! :D
