Got one in a couple days ago - first Urban, first slipjoint Spyderco, first Italian Spyderco, and first K390 - I'm very impressed on all counts (though I can't say I've used the steel enough for that to mean much). I've only really used it to cut up a bit of food (apples, venison sausage), open a couple packages, and break up some hard plastic beer can rings before tossing them.

But the action is great (love the stiff half-stop that only works against the closing) and the ergonomics are wonderful for something this size. The steel already has some stains from some apple juice (as expected) but it's also kept quite a nice aggressive edge. I think this one will be bumping my HAP40 Delica out of my pocket for a while. Also, it's making my usual slipjoint carry, a GEC #48 with 1095 look really, really old-fashioned.

A big thank-you to Spyderco for always pushing forward in both materials and design.

Oh, and I forgot to say, I'm liking the color, too.

Thanks for the warm welcome Sal, Sharp Guy! I realised as soon as i pressed the submit button that i was replying to half way through the thread, doh!!
I don't have my hands on one yet, i ordered from the US as i got frustrated waiting for UK/EUR stock and i understand that it's landed here in the UK from the tracking info. Probably get the ransom note from customs sometime this week!
It'll be my first non stainless blade so i'm looking forward to a nice dark grey patina (any suggestions for getting there quickly?) I have the British Blades forum urban in elmax which is pretty much perfect in every way. But once you've got the bug, you just gotta have more right!?

Some people like to stick their knives in a large apple and leave them there. Some like to coat the blades with yellow mustard or ketchup. Some like vinegar to dip their knives in. With vinegar, you can simply hang the blade over a container of vinegar without dunking it. It will gradually patina. I have done all the above and now just prefer to let it happen.

Mine is in the mail .I never thought I will be so excited about a slip joint.I like my blades clean and shine so as soon as that K390 beauty is in my hands I'll apply a Tuff Glide treatement and hopefully this will keep stain away.It worked with Hap40 so it may work with K390 also  .

With you on all points, there, Doc. With this one I did soak the blade in white vinegar. Only took a few hours and it's virtually black at this point. Looks terrific on the grey scales.

Actually, one thing that would make the urban (and the rest of the slipit fam) 100% perfect (if you're listening, Sal!) would be a lanyard hole. I much prefer these little ones to sit in the bottom of my pocket so a lanyard, and minus the clip, would be great please! :D

Can't wait to get my hands on mine. I ordered two, so i can have a play with the patina on one and save the other as a drawer queen! Y'know, just in case!

NP nomad! I see now that Sal had also posted that same info over on the BB Forum. Good for you for passing on good information!

This K390 Sprint has renewed my interest in the Urban. Now I find myself wishing I would've signed up for the BB Forum/Elmax model. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one. If Sal ends up making the K390 Wharncliffe that he mentioned over on BB I'll be in for one of those too.

Not sure if it's quite positioned far enough to the end of the handle for you - but if you're not going to use the clip, you can pop the clip screw out entirely and just run your lanyard through that hole.

K390 urban received today.
What a little charmer this knife is. The size, feel, action on this guy is really nice. I like the subtle texture of the frn. It almost feels like g10. Fits in the hand nicely.
Showed a couple of coworkers and one asked if there were any k390's still available. I sent him a few links and maybe we have a convert!
The urban is a winner.

My second came yesterday, Carrying one today. They both came very stiff but the one I'm carrying is starting to loosen up nicely. Love the deep carry wire clip, disappears in pocket. Glad I grabbed a backup, this one is a keeper.
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.

I hear you. I've been carrying this since it arrived. Very nice. I keep thinking "backup!" But that almost never works out for me. Still... hmmm....

:D sorry Ken, didn't mean to enable. I was just afeared about how hard this sprint may be to find once they sell out.

No worries, what so ever, brother! It was the right thing to do. Awesome steel in a great package for a fantastic price. Where's the downside?

Thank you for the kind words Sal and everybody (and thank you JD for the heads up !).

I love my Urban so much that I have decided to make it more "Deluxe" with some CF scales from Cuscadi.
They should be here next week and of course I will picture them and update the little blog.

It's so great to have the chance to use slipjoint folders with premium hyper steels. This is unique !

More to come soon. :-)

How do you get just the scales from Cuscadi? from my view of their web site it looks like only the complete knife with N690 blade is available...

Email them and ask. I think they have a lot of pre-made stuff ready to ship.

Nemo (or anyone else who has a regular uban to compare),
How well do the cuscadi scales fit? They look great. Just checking that the frn molds for the sprint are the same as the regular production (I can't imagine why not).
Thanks.

Except for the sharp spine, I love this knife. It's a Dragonfly replacement, IMO. The steel does patina quickly, I find, but so long as it doesn't rust I don't care. The ergos are fantastic for such a small knife, the clip is one of the best, the scales are nicely made and look good (but might be slightly more likely to slip versus the bi directional texturing on the japanese FRN spydies), and the jimping works well yet isn't uncomfortable at all. If you like a traditional pocket knife or knives the size of the Dragonfly, I would absolutely pick one up.
