How to find out about new sprint runs?
How to find out about new sprint runs?
I am very interested in a Para 3, but given how many knives I already own, I thought I would skip the stock Para 3 and wait for the first sprint run.
However, I've missed sprint runs before because I didn't find out about them until too late. Is there some mechanism to find out when Spyderco starts a new sprint run?

Welcome to the forum motocoder
Stay tuned right here, usually the buzz begins once someone has an early tip that a model will be made as a Sprint, if you subscribe to the topic updated information, speculation and enthusiasm will be easy to keep track of. Once a highly anticipated Sprint starts to drop there will be plenty of info on what retailers have them often updated on an almost minute by minute basis.
I have slacked off and not checked in here for a week and missed Sprints, or been unaware that they even existed

Some dealers let you preorder sprint run knives. I have a preorder on the Caly3 HAP40 sprint run at Knife Center they won't charge your card until the knife is available.

Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
I know Spyderco does quite a few sprints each year but I wouldn't mind getting an email from Spyderco about upcoming sprints. It would be a good way to be notified since I am already on the email list. Spyderco is one company I don't mind seeing in my Inbox.

Hi Motocoder,
Welcome to our forum.
Usually the best way is to check in here on the forum. We do not maintain an email list for sprints. Also, with "exclusives" that some of our customers create, they are also generally hinted here.

Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
Ok, thanks all. I agree with rybu0305 that a new product announcement mailing list from SpyderCo would be ideal.
Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
Agreed. I check my email daily. Sometimes I'll go months without checking in here just because I get caught up in other hobbies and don't think of it.
I'm hoping to catch the S90V frame lock Military this year. I've never had a frame lock Military, and I'd prefer the hybrid scale setup compared to full Ti. The Jade M4 version also has my interested because I want to swap the scales with the blade & hardware from a DLC S30V version.

Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
There is no easy answer to this except that you have to be very vigilant and check this forum frequently. Lets assume that you are considering sprints as well as dealer exclusives. Sometimes they are known in advance, sometimes retailers will announce them and maybe even take pre-orders. But if you check here frequently, at least once a week, you can usually find out in time to place an order. Unfortunately a lot of the releases have worked like concert tickets in that they go on sale at a certain date and time and sell out quickly. I work during the day and don't have internet access so for a recent highly anticipated release I had my wife at the ready when the knife went for sale and she managed to order one for me.motocoder wrote:Is there some mechanism to find out when Spyderco starts a new sprint run?
Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
Not to toot my own horn, but I am fortunate enough to have a brick & mortar knife store very close to me, and they automatically get two of everything that isn't a dealer-exclusive; this includes sprints. And since I go over there usually once a week, I'll see the new knives as they drop pretty quickly. At that point I usually take pictures and post them here, like so: //forum.spyderco.com/viewto ... =2&t=73287
If you keep an eye out for my threads like that one, you'll often spot the sprints, at least as they're available at a retailer. Of course, whether you can get that sprint online or elsewhere is another story. :)
FYI the B&M store that I frequent has some sprint pieces in stock right now. PM me and I can assist you further.

Hi, Motocoder:
Another option for you is to subscribe to the Spyderco byte: https://www.spyderco.com/resources/byte-e-newsletter/. We publish a new issue each month and we try to highlight Sprints and even Exclusives occasionally. We do list Sprints in our annual catalog and mid-year supplement but what is published is not always all inclusive but it's as close as we can get at the time of publication.
Welcome to the Spyderco.com Forum! We hope you enjoy your time with us!

Once you hear of an exclusive coming from a particular dealer; follow and subscribe them on FB and IG. And then be prepared for a long "bathroom break" at work due to "site crashes". Its exciting!

Re: How to find out about new sprint runs?
Some online retailers have a "coming soon" section that lists upcoming sprints and exclusives (for that particilar retailer).

Also, once you know it's coming you can really zero in on the drop date by watching Ebay. The very first few that hit the street end up there. Within a few days all the dealers will begin getting them. For clarity, I am not suggesting buying from Ebay as it comes with it's risks as well as the fact that those first few often go for a premium but rather just that it is a good sign to start checking your preferred dealers each morning.

Agreed! When you check the forum all the time your spare money goes right out the window. Sprints are the best of all Spydies though.
