Sir,

All (at least the most) businesses are working for ELU, but you and your team go an extra hundred miles for all Spyderholics.
Thank you,

Dealers and distributors place their orders for the sprint. Kelly records, tally's and tries to fairly distribute the available product. Above all else, she will be fair. Even our own store (SFO) has an allotment.

We never know if there will be demand until after the orders are placed. Some designs may not get enough orders to sustain inventory. Some designs sell out in a few days. Right now, the maker is producing the HAP 40 Caly 3 (1200 pcs) and the Jess Horn "memory" version. (1200 pcs) The samples were surprisingly good. We're waiting on production. We should have the samples at the SHOT show. The first 400 pcs generally go out to "collectors" and "Premier" distributors first

That is wonderful music to my ears. I've coveted the Caly3 for a while and I was worried when they were disco'd that I had missed out on getting one without putting in extra time and money. Not that I mind that, but now there's a Caly3 I can buy. It'll be in-person at my local B&M, which I vastly prefer in so many ways. It'll be a Sprint, which is always fun. It's a great color, and while I like CF a lot this will actually be my first G10 Spyderco. And as you can see from my sig, I really love HAP40. And now you're telling me that it is "surprisingly good"... I'm seriously geeking out now. My only worry about the Caly3: that it entirely displaces my other Spyderco knives from my pocket. :p

Went back and reread the last year of so of this thread and it made me spend some quality time (clean, lube & sharpen) with my two Calys, which have been neglected of late, an SB 3 and a CF ZDP-189 3.5. It's really great news that the Moki factory is pumping Calys again!

I'd really like to have this green G-10 HAP40 version, but it's complicated by the fact that there are more new knives on my want list this year than ever before, about a dozen, which may have to be narrowed down to 3 or so. I'm usually drawn more to new designs, so this Caly is about #4 on the list right now, but since it's a sprint and the others I want are going to be regular production I hope, I may bump the Caly up a notch or two :D.

Also, I could wait for the 3.5 instead. But I like and need both sizes for different reasons. It's amazing that the 3.5 has a blade a half-inch longer yet the closed length is only a quarter of an inch longer. Also amazing that the carbon fiber 3.5 weighs the same as the G-10 3, 3.05oz on my scales. The 3.5 is a hair thinner and with its black CF and super deep-carry clip (I added the black Sage one), it's a super discreet but very significant hunk of a knife.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

What about the Caly3.5 Sal ? Are there any plans for a new one ? Maybe a G10 one ?

I thought I'd seen where he mentioned the 3.5 but now I don't believe he did. It must have been wishful thinking, dreaming, telepathy, or whatever  :p

It's very rare when I pull up someone else's photo but this one very much bears to be respectfully repeated. The C-54 model is again one that they literally got "PERFECT" the first time in my humble opinion. From what I remember I believe it was the very first folder in VG-10 which that fact alone should speak volumes.

Just like fine vintage wine ( compared to your $100 a bottle type stuff) this is truly a vintage Spyderco design that must never die and I hope we see many new Sprint Runs of this model. The thread we had a while back about newer/better Japanese steels needs to be looked again>> because this would be the outright PERFECT model to introduce a new super Japanese steel in my humble opinion  .

Awesome idea on the Sage clip. It looks so much better now! Thanks Doug!

Looks good Murph! I have the dark Sage 1 clips on my Sage 2 & Chaparral and I like them better. Up until a couple weeks ago I didn't even realize the clip on the Chap had been changed. I just thought it came that way. Now I'm thinking about going to the dark clips on my Sage 3 & 5.

Sweet, I really like the dark sage clip. Can you get them from the SFO? I wouldn't mind picking up 2 or 3 more to replace the Shiney ones on a couple others spydies.

I've been carrying smaller a lot recently, a HAP-40 Delica a lot these past several months and a K390 Urban these past couple weeks, but this weekend I dug out my Caly 3.5 CF/ZDP-189. I forgot how much I liked this design. Amazing how much blade you get in such a slim package, and nice ergos to go along with it.

Figured I'd bump the thread to see if anyone had heard anything new past the HAP-40 Caly3 sprint. I'd hate to see these disappear from the production catalog for too long.

Caly3.5 is the great knife, no doubts about this. Almost the same happened with me, but with Caly3.
In the past I strongly prefer 3.5" bladed knives. I carried Persian since 2006. When Caly3.5 came out, it kicked out Caly3 out of my pocket and I carried Caly3.5 for years. Last fall my job moved me from manufacturing to the office and to avoid scaring people I switched back from Caly3.5 to Caly3. Only then I realized how I love Caly3. This knife is amazing. It is too bad that Spyderco discontinue this model. Fortunately for me I have a few. :) Plus sprint is coming. Hopefully I will be able to get a couple.

The 3.5 is definitely a classic knife, though I too got an occasional "odd look" when opening at work. Love the cf as it's easy on the pockets. Looking forward to the Hap40 Caly 3.
