Spyderco Knife of the Year 2016

#1

Post by Johnnie1801 »

This past year seems to have been one of the busiest on record for Spyderco with new releases coming at us almost at a weekly basis. So let's take a moment to re-cap your favorite models from 2016 and vote for the knife you think should be the Spyderco Knife of the Year 2016.

Rules are simple
1. One vote per member
2. You can vote for any Spyderco knife (You don't need to own it or have handled it) so long as it was released in 2016
3. Voting will be closed on 7th January and winner revealed

Here is Ramzar's list of 2016 models in case you need some reminding :)

If any knives are released this week, I assume they'd be eligible as well, correct?

Yes and I just noticed Ramzar hasn't added the Para 3 so that counts as well. But we only have 3 days left of the year so I don't see them releasing anything else, I mean they have to have some time off at some point :D

Revisiting the year, my answer kinda surprises me: GB2

Really hard to pick one, but the fit/finish and value of the GB2 is incredible. Even if I still favor the GB1, the balance of the GB2 is just perfect.

Sage5 in pocket today, and the CF M4 PM2 is probably my most carried of the bunch followed by the Mantra2. Putting M4 in the PM2 was kinda awesome... Arg! I have til the 7th to change my answer right? ;)

Nirvana is the obvious answer, although I don't own one.

Out of the ones I own and still own, Native 5 LW S110V or HAP 40 Dfly (but any HAP40 model could be inserted)

The anniversary Native, SpydieChef and Nirvana are tempting, but my top pick has to go to the Magnitude. Feels great in hand, flips so smooth, fantastic design, and is the closest I'm likely to come to owning a custom Carey.

PM2 in M4 - either one. We asked for and wanted this for so long and finally got not one, but two, versions!
The Cruwear one is a strong bonus, but the M4 has been an ask for much longer.
The GB2 is a strong second though. Also much anticipated and a real winner!

The GB2. Overall best value in a knife right now IMO. Awesome blade steel in all that Taichung goodness, and a gayle bradley design at that!!

Man...you guys are making me want to buy a GB2! It's a tough call between the 52100 Military and the HAP40 Stretch. My vote is HAP40 Stretch since it's such an amazing value. This knife definitely punches above it's weight.

I'm going to vote for the maxamet mule for being truely groundbreaking.

Honorable mentions go to the gb2 (how is this so much more affordable the gb1?), nirvana, jade m4 pm2 (for selling out so fast and being spectacular), cruwear pm2 (for also causing a stir around here), 40th anniversary native 5 (with a handle so nice, it won't be done again) and myrtle (because marbled carbon is awesome).

This is a very tough decision. The PM2 variants are great, love the Mantra 2, Advocate, Sage 5. I know that I'm going to love the Para 3. Taking everything into consideration, I'm going to base my vote on innovation. The Nirvana, with it's milled single slab of Ti challenging it's construction, is just too hard to beat.

Nirvana!

I vote: Nirvana

Runner up would be the Mantra, but if I had to get rid of one and keep the other I'd keep my Nirvana. Like others have said, the PM2 sprints/exclusives this year deserve honourable mention.
