To Honor?

#1

Post by sal »

So I had this thought; (I get those once in a while) I've been chatting on these forums for a long time, and there certainly have been many of you that have stuck around to harrass me almost as long. SSsssooooo, if we were goind to try an experimet of a new "project". What aboaut honoring a member?

Let's start with Paul; If you were going to design a Spyderco modell, what would you create? We call if the "Deacon". Maybe a flash batch? Could be fun. Whatchyathink Paul? :D

That actually sounds like a great idea. There are a few long time members here who contribute a lot to this forum. Paul is one of them. What is his favorite blade style? What length?

While we are at it, we need a knife from Spyderco to honor Sal and it should be something that represents your ideal knife, blade length, and style.

How about a KOPA and a KIWI both on steroids  :D >> make them automatics to boot :D But seriously I know in my gut that Paul (Deacon), our beloved Mayor of Spyderville would love something very conservative ;) I'm thinking maybe something like a STRETCH model with Sambar Stag handle/scales with a nice damascus blade. Or you could take one of the newer models like the Mantra and jazz it up the way he would like it.

I'm shooting for a JD Spydo-Hawk myself with a new Spyderedged pattern blade. Micarta or G-10 would be great for the handle

But getting back down to earth Sal I think you've got a great idea and I can't wait to see what the others say about it. I also think our good Dr. Hannibal Lecter M.D. should also be considered for some type of honorary blade like a really jazzed up Karambit for instance. Great Thread !!!!

I'll bite :D

If you're making a Deacon special, then it's got to be a leftie PM2 in carbon steel :p or you could just go for -

1. Must be a back/mid-lock
2. Must have wood scales
3. Must have bolsters
4. Must have stainless steel
5. Must be a Stretch with all the previous musts :p

Nice idea, but I'd be torn between letting the "honoree" design their own model ala Burger King,ie "have it your way"

....<OR>....

designing it yourself <Spyderco> with nice touches and features you know <or at least think you know> they'd like from previous posts, plus maybe throw in a new surprise or two. Kinda like a surprise gift.

Having said that, of existing models, for Paul, it'd have to be a Kiwi or Stretch...unless you wanted to go the partial <or> TOTAL surprise route and design him a totally novel tailor fit model. You could do that Sal, and it may be more of an "honor" to the recipient.

Great idea Sal! I'm very curious to see the details of what Paul thinks the knife should be.

Oh YES! What a neat idea! Heck, maybe even replace the Forum Knife with the Forum Member of the Year Knife.

Bolsters with no screws showing, natural wood scales no dye jobs ;)

Probably ought to be exclusively left-handed, in addition to all else people have mentioned. :p

Just wanted to say how great I think the flash batch concept is...cant wait to see whats next on the horizon in that category especially if they will be Taichung and Golden made.
