K390!

The Police 4 is on page 3 of the catalogue. Looks very nice.

Might be my first Police. I'm glad they got rid of the swedge. Would have preferred a straight spine all the way to the tip.
Also I'd like to see the Japan-made lockbacks get upgraded like the Native 5 which is bank vault. Or use an internal stop pin like on the Chaparral.

I was never interested in this one, but number 4 looks great. New blade design, K390, can't go wrong.

I hope they make a bunch of these. I see a couple in my future. This is right up my alley and I agree it's a can't miss. I'm happy to see a high performance long bladed lockback. There is something for everybody.

For me, the Police4 is THE must-have in the 2017 catalog!

Same here, K390 in a large backlock.

Wow I missed the steel type. That may be enough to push me over the edge. The ergonomics look like they'll be awesome. This version looks much more like the back lock Military that some people have begged for.

Did anyone else notice that the Police 4 is sans Boye Dent in the catalog? I really like the continuous, flush look of that.

I noticed the missing Boye dent right away. Was wondering if there are other changes to the lock which render the dent superfluous? The K390 intrigues me. Is this the first Police with a non-stainless blade?

I've "almost bought" a Police 3/ Ulize on a few occasions, so this improved Police will be hard to resist, even if it is just to sample K390 as an EDC.

It is the same class of steel as CPM 10V, but from the spec sheets I get the impression that K390 gives up a slight bit of abrasive wear resistance for improved toughness.

This is on my list too, I've been on the fence a couple of times with the Police 3, but I always ended buying another model before... It's time to try some K390.

I've never bought a Police model, but I'm excited for this one... I've been mostly buying non-stainless steel models because I like the way they perform better and I don't usually need a high degree of rust-resistance. I have no experience with K390, however, but I remember that Spyderco put out Mule Team 17 in K390, so I'm curious people's experience and impression of this steel?

I've got a MT17 that I have used extensively. In my experience, K390 holds a very fine edge forever. At least in my mostly food prep and around the house type tasks. It also has taken a nice patina that is mostly grey now. It didn't patina as readily as Super Blue, but it did develop fairly quickly. Because of the really super edge retention, I am looking forward to it in the Police 4 platform.

ETA: Photo trying to show patina on my K390 Mule. Not the greatest photo ever...

Knifecenter has a pre-order for the Police 4 already. $173 seems a fair price for K390 in this package.

Hmmm... I was thinking the opposite. Seems kind of pricey to me. The current Police 3 is $55 less. Seems like the Japanese models are getting more expensive.

I'm curious how you K390 compares to Hap40 or Superblue?

I was comparing it to other Japanese made knives in the same size range. My Al Mar Eagle HD was like $190 for VG-10, and the standard Police 3 is about $140.

To go from VG-10 to K390 is a big leap too. Sourcing, shipping, and machining is probably pretty expensive.
